Isn't the whole point of fasting that you get to feel what poor people feel like every day? Surely you should embrace the pain which is pretty much the whole point of fasting. Otherwise youre just doing it because your family is, theres not point in fasting if you dont do it for the reason its intended, dont take shortcuts, embrace the pain or dont fast at all.

fasting is one of the pillars of Islam (meaning you have to do it if you're a muslim) and it's not necessarily about feeling like poor people or pleasing others...it's more about finding yourself and strengthing your faith

To the best of my knowledge, fasting is not only about being grateful for food but to also improve self control and become closer to God (this can be done by improving your character, treating everyone kindly, reading the Quran and learning more about the religion. So its about improving yourself to be a better muslim and concentrating on becoming closer to God
