When labelling a hydrocarbon chain with an alcohol functional group I thought that we only label it at the suffix to show the functional OH group, yet I've answers with hydroxyl instead of the stem? Why is that, is that because another functional group is present? Thank-you :smile:

It probably has another ending e.g -oic acid for a carboxylic acid

Yep, it's bc there's another functional group present which has a higher priority than the alcohol so it becomes dominant, if you like.
