Discuss predictions and tips here! I feel this paper is quite good as long as you learn and understand the content inside out. This paper moves away from ideas of science into testing your understanding of scientific ideas in a variety of contexts. However, some questions can still come up on ideas of science, just not as much as core science.

Hey, just asking, do you need to know the stages of meiosis and mitosis for the exam? I don't want to get trolled again like the previous biology exam. =.=

Six Marker Predictions

1/ B5: Cell cycle i.e mitosis or something on meiosis of organisms comparision question.

2/ B4: Active transport

3/ B6: Reflex arcs in animals for survival.

My predictions are:

Predictions for B4- enzymes
- different types of diffusion
- field studies (e.g. quadrats) - active transport

Predictionsfor B5
- making proteins...?
- cell division
- phototropism and plant development
- meristem and how it works- cell cycle i.e. mitosis or something onmeiosis of organisms’ comparison question.- stem/Unspecialised Cells

Predictions for B6- reflex arcs in animals for survival- memory Models- synapses
Does anyone know what the 6 mark questions were on last year?? Was there anything on meiosis and mitosis??

It was basically on protein synthesis and gene switches influencing cell specialisation.

How do you know whether the question is taking about diffusion, osmosis or active transport.

I was recently doing a past paper and got tricked and started talking about diffusion when it was active transport.
Apparently, there is ALWAYS a higher percentage of nitrogen in the soil than in the plant. Is this true?
I did the 2015 paper and got tricked in the dialysis fluid question and talked about osmosis when it was talking about diffusion...I'm just so confused. >:frown:

1. Osmosis always involves water. If there has been no mention of water in the stem of the question, then it is diffusion.

2. There would always be a higher concentration of nitrates in the soil unless stem of question states otherwise. That's the whole point of active transport: to go against gradients so from low to high concentration.

Probably going to be stuff on mitosis and meiosis, likely 6 marker, I thought last year's paper was quite easy, which is annoying as that stuff's unlikely to come up this year.

The grade boundaries for last years paper was surprisingly low.
41 for an a*, which suggests people found that paper difficult...
How many marks would I need for a B or for an A. I really need Biology cause I want to work in the vetting department in life! Thanks!
Does anyone have the 2015 past paper as I've done all the rest?

If active transport goes against the concentration gradient, from low to high, then would there not be a higher concentration of nitrates in the plant roots? Then the plant uses active transport to get nitrates from the soil into its roots.

if it was low concentration to high concentration wouldn't that mean that there is a higher concentration of nitrates in the plant than in the soil because it needs to move from a low concentration (in the soil) to a high concentration (in the plant)?
