Why should we care that it's Ramadan?

So you are supposing that major news outlets are not supposed to report major events throughout the world. The whole purpose of newspapers is to inform, to educate, to keep a constant flow of news coming through. It's fine that major news outlets are submerged with articles about random celebrities and who they recently slept with but a major world event isn't?

Remember that Islam is the religion followed by 1/5th of the world's population. As such, it is a pretty significant event in the global calendar because it affects so much of the world's populace.

Both Easter and Christmas have been commercialized - Ramadan hasn't.

my point exactly, those not participating in ramadan don't care, media certainly don't care, no one's asking this guy to care I'm baffed

I don't get why we (society/mainstream media) care so much about a holy month?

This is the first mention of Ramadan I've seen, except on sites that cater to a Muslim audience (which includes the BBC, Islam being Britain's second largest religion). Where are you seeing any other references to it? I was even talking to some Muslims today who seemed very disinterested in it and were not even fasting (because it's at the height of Summer, which means there is about a 2 hour window to eat and sleep at night before you have to fast again. Technically if you live this far North you should still fast following the timetable of Mecca, although I think that properly only applies to people living above the Arctic Circle in Norway and parts of Canada).

I care because I like to see people happy and celebrating their cultures, backgrounds and religions.

Also it serves as a learning experience, you can learn about other cultures and religions.

Stop being such a miserable slug.

everyone, let us learn to reply in a civilized fashion towards an non muslim.

Its your choice if you would like to care or not, this month helps the muslims to abstain from evil formalities and get back on track. aswell as this, it has been said that approx 21 days of abstaining from a selected deed will remove it from your system and so it is extremely beneficial to those whom would wish to stop an life-devouring action.

Then why the hell do we make such a big deal about, Christmas, and Easter and St Patrick's day. Stfu.

Because a large percent of the population are starving and dehyrdating themselves during the day time. Its bad for production, bad for business, bad for practicing education and in some instances bad for the NHS because Muslims who refuse to take medication such as tablets because they cant drink water. (Before you say the old, sick are exempt... these are anecdotes i have heard from GP's)

I imagine soon we will have to make accommodations to negate some of these effects likely to the detriment and inconvenience of the wider population (I think exams were touted as being moved etc)

How is it bad for production, business, practicing education or NHS? Everyone I've seen has carried on as normal with their daily activities. Not eating and drinking during the day doesn't have huge effects on your performance anyway, ever heard of intermittent fasting?

Ugh you'll find anything to get all hot and bothered about, imagine if Ramadan required all muslims to stay at home for the whole month, you would feel the same about that. Honestly, just stop.

I've been seeing Ramadan trending on twitter in the UK and the odd thing here and there in the media, but I'm really not seeing that much and I don't think that many non-Muslims care really, 3 million Muslims is a minority, yes, but still a sizable enough majority to make Ramadan trend on twitter and be covered here and there in the media, it's an important month for those 3 million citizens, so it's understandable that you're going to hear about it now and then this month.
im gonna assume that you have a very small penis

The commercialised side of Christmas goes on for months. The religious side of it starts roughly a month before.
