C4 Integration
So the question is to integrate tan2 x and on the mark scheme it says to rewrite tan2 x as sec2 x -1 then use the formula book to differentiate sec2 x.
But why can't I just rewrite it as (tan x)2 then use the formula booklet to integrate tan and get 1/3 ln lsec xl + c? ;(

That's not how it works. Make a substitution and see how it compares.
