1. You need to contact your uni and talk to someone in the students union who will be able to advise you.Apparently compelling reason appeals are made jointly by you and the Uni to SFE. You cna inform your ex tutor as well.

This leaflet explains what you need to do. I think its straightforward, but I suggest you get assistance from someone in the SU as i think you might find it too confusing.

This will involve writing a letter and collecting evidence. Your uni will also write a letter for SFE to confirm you left and why. You cna also search your uni website for the information they have on making an application.

http://www.solent.ac.uk/studying/student-support/funding-advice/resources/how-to-apply-for-compelling-personal-reasons-and-discretionary-payments.pdf

https://www.aber.ac.uk/en/student-finance/money-management/guides/personal-reasons/

2. You should also contact SFE and confirm what your funding options with them are i.e whether they will pay years 2 and 3. You cna also check with them and inform them you are going to make a compelling reasons application.

The student adviser at your Uni will be able to help you with the application. If you wnat to sort this out you have to get to grips with it read and understand, collect evidence and talk to people so you cna make a successful application. You really need tobe determined and deal with it.

How do I contact my uni now? I have left and not planning to travel to Coventry. I guess I email them. Also am I to late to apply? When is the deadline?

3 (length of new course) + 1 (gift year) - 2 (years at first uni) - 1 (year at second uni if no mitigation) = 1 year of Tuition Fee Loan.

Ok. So I have my gift year correct? Do I get the loan and grant too? Or just the loan? FYI I won't be living in halls I'll be living with my mom and dad

You won't get a grant. That's gone now for new starting students. I don't know about maintenance loans in this case. Check with SFE. But you WILL need to find £9k to pay tuition upfront in September. Can you raise that? Having "let down" your parents and grandfather previously you need to be VERY sure this is want you want. What happens if you struggle with part-time working AND a full-time degree... you will be in a another mess...

I STRONGLY advise you to wait a year. Or longer. Get a job. Save the money yourself. With pride and maturity. And then you can be sure you are making the right choices.

And as said previously, a degree doesn't mean you can then walk into a dream IT job...

Have you considered an apprenticeship instead? think you need to be below 24 to do it, some can pay for you to do a degree so might be worth looking into and you get the experience which is better.
You used up 2 years of SF you might have to pay the first year (9k) yourself and then you will get the rest from SF so you will need to save up.

Can I raise that? No but I can pay in small amounts etc from my parents :frown: I feel so disgusted earning peanuts and I'm asking my parents for money again... I feel like killing myself just from typing that.

Yes I know what you mean but what kind of job? I am applying random jobs online none stop since we last spoke last night. If I can't get 2 years funding from SFE then I have no choice. I have to ditch Uni and do something else rest of my life

You need help and someone to get an accurate understanding of whats gone on. there are still gaps imo. Contact the SU send an emial, but also contact them on the phone. Phone you will get a faster response.

Our advisors deal with phone queries between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday please telephone to use this service 024 7765 5200. You may be asked to leave your name and telephone number and an advisor will get back to you if they are currently busy with another student.

You can also email for advice or further information on [email protected]

Compelling personal reasons claims are made in conjunction with the Uni from what ive read. You need their support.

Ive looked for the procedures and the documentation is very poor or I didnt find it.

It says for mitigating circumstances. Thats he closest i could get to compelling personal reasons. The SU will know the rules better.

College shall consider each case on merit, however, please be aware that academic and financial difficulties are not normally regarded as acceptable reasons for any refund.Such cases must be submitted to the Deputy-Vice-Chancellor (Planning and Resources) who shall liaise with the Director or nominee.

Afaik you can't pay tuition in installments. You pay it all upfront.

And it might take weeks, months, to get a job. You seem to think everything just happens instantly... at a time to suit you.. life's not like that.

Thank you so so much!!! You helped me a lot! I will contact them now and hopefully they reply back to me tommorow.

How likely am I going to get another years funding? My reason is looking after my grandad 24/7 because he has cancer and passed away etc. I want to make my family and grandad proud. I dropped out uni not because I failed it's because of that reason and first time round Indropped because he course I was doing was complete non sense to me

Right.
Yes I know that I am very aware of that. :frown:
Do not just rely on e-mail, use the phone. For all I know either they or then Uni are poor.
In that case visit CAB, but they are non specialist. I dont think you have the ability to do this on your own.
You need to write down a summary on 1 page so they know whats happened and what you want.

What is CAB? Why do you think I don't have the ability to do it on my own? Write summary? Who?

Because its complicated and you could do with assistance. You dont know the system and its not coming across you fully appreciate the issues based on your comments. If you are confident on doing it by yourself then do so. Ive done a lot of the research for you.

You can make arrangements to pay tuition fees termly in instalments of £3000 odd. The payment deadlines coincide with the dates that student loan payments are received. Hence my earlier funding suggestion.

And herein lies the major problem. OP, if you cannot independently conduct research into the viable options to enable return to degree level study, you are going to struggle to complete a degree level course. Particularly when you are stabbing in the dark with regard to what subject you wish to pursue and do not have a particular passion for any single subject.

Yes - and I've since noticed some universities offer 6x instalment payment plans.

And 100% agree... OP should get themselves a job not rush down another potentially dangerous alley.

Not going back to university immediately doesn't mean you're abandoning the idea completely! There's nothing wrong with taking a slightly more scenic route through life. As other posters have said, it's important you do not rush back into something then to have to leave again. Take time away so you are able to earn (and possibly save depending on circumstances) and also assess what is really important to you.

I know from experience that it's a **** situation that you're in but rushing back into another degree is a very bad idea imo.
I have concerns about negotiating what can be a quite tricky appeal procedure if you arent used to rules. It requires research, attention to detail and ability to present your case in a persuasive manner to convince SFE to refund any money owed. It will be very easy to be put off, present a poor case or emphasise the wrong points. The OP needs to be determined, but its thousands of £'s of determination.

My impression from their website is that they are ill prepared for such appeals or at least there is no mention of procedures on the website and that gives me alarm bells about the institution. They could ofc have tons of experience and its just not on the website.

Im also wary of getting the correct facts of who has paid what. Thats why he needs to be interviewed or someone need to clarify with SFE directly what they have paid and what their position is on funding.

There is every reason to put a claim in as it will wipe off debt.

When he knows everything, then he will be in a better position to look at his options. I have reservations about whether it would be suitable to resum University until he has dealt with any bereavement issues and he has sorted out any post mortem about his suitability as a student, finding the right course and throughly reviewing when he should go to Uni if ever.

I am sure that someone provided this link earlier, but I will paste it here again. If you will struggle with funding, choosing a suitable course and the motivation and ability to complete a degree an apprenticeship will be a much more sensible pathway for you to take.

You won't have to ask your parents for more money. You can change sectors without financial penalty if you come to realise you don't like the one chosen after all. And you can earn while you learn. I cannot see why your parents wouldn't be both relieved and proud if you gained yourself an apprenticeship in a reputable organisation, in a progressive position.
