Erm pretty much just John Keynes mixed economy and social liberalism about the state intervening so individuals can fulfil their potential

Could you maybe expand on these a bit please? I'm just having trouble getting my head around it
Original post by xxvine
Thanks for that
What I will ask....
You know 'neo liberalism' and 'neo conservasitm' do you talk about them as separate strands or do you merge them together as the 'new right'

depends on the question, because The New Right is paradoxical- each sub strand conflicts with each other as one is quite principled (NL) and the other pragmatic as it sought to counter the social, cultural and sexual revolution of the '60's (NC)

in the 20th C western governments provided social welfare and were in favour of a mixed economy (state interference in the market), and this is because they believed in state intervention and public spending, because they believed this would pull the economy out of depression in the '30's (as a result of the wall street crash of 1929)
the post war welfare state in the uk was based on the 1942 beveridge report which sought to get rid of the 5 'giants'
there interventionist policies were guided by the work of Keynes who suggested that the government could 'manage' the economy and suggested that the government should reflate their economies by increasing public spending or cutting taxes. Although Keynes was not opposed to capitalism he just argued that it didnt work in certain complex industrial societies.

This isn't a prediction, but I was looking at Anarchism and edexcel have really only asked five types of question regarding:

1. Ultra-Liberal or Ultra-Socialist
2. Nature of the future stateless society
3. Demanding the impossible/Utopian Dream/Anarchist fantasy
4. Strong on moral principles but weak on political analysis (only been asked once)
5. Single doctrine (only asked twice - but last asked in 2014)

So if anarchism was to come up and I were to predict a question that they would ask, I would say something of #1, #4 or #2

My teacher didn't teach anarchism
Do you reckon liberalism and conservatism will come up as the essays or not?

Anarchism and Liberalism I think will definitely come up. I think they are most likely to leave out Socialism but I have a feeling that they might leave out Conservatism instead.

Are there any questions they haven't asked on liberalism that could be asked?

Main topics for liberalism seem to be
1. Liberalism + Equality
2. Liberalism + Democracy
3. Tensions: Modern Vs Classical
4. View on the state

They've never asked:

- "To what extent is Liberalism a single doctrine" question
- Anything on Liberalism + Capitalism/Free-market economics

Nationalism is gonna be an essay for sure since it wasn't last year. Maybe feminism will come up as 2 15 markers

I think this too, especially as feminism has come up 5 years in a row.
'A fear of democracy runs through liberalism'
'Liberal democracy is a contradiction in terms'
Are these questions asking the same thing pretty much or different things?
Any guesses as to what topics might come up for the 15 markers?

What different types of questions can they ask about democracy?
There's been two already which are
'Liberal democracy is a contradiction in terms'
'A fear of democracy runs through liberalism'
Thanks
I reckon liberalism - individualism vs collectivism might come up as the 45 marker
