The Student Room Group

When will something be done about these terrorists?

The major Western countries and China sure have the arms and resources to fight off these terrorists. It won't be long until these terrorists build a nuclear weapon if North Korea can do it.

We need action now not later. The last thing we need is these terrorists to be launching and transporting nukes everywhere.

The way I see it is that countries won't take action until something on a big scale happens, Something similar to 9/11 or similar. (Destruction and vast Deaths)

We can't wait, we require action now! Countries need to come together and work towards a common goal of eliminating terrorism.

Terrorism is just going to get worse the more every nation stands back and does little to help.

The world doesn't work that way(lol you're making it sound simple when it really isn't) and terrorism can't really be eradicated completely. It might take years before this all dies down.

We got the resources, countries need to unite and take it on, it will take time but leaving it longer and longer is not the way to do it.

Oh. Do something. Genius. Nobody's ever thought about that before.

You're really a bastion of original thinking, aren't you?

Hop to it then.

History repeats itself

Our current society have troublemakers that are terrorists

In my opinion, troublemakers like are a vital component of History. There is a high possibility we can get rid of IS but there might be a different sect of troublemakers that arise after the fall of IS.

North Korea are much better organised than terrorists. Al Queda and ISIS don't even like each other. Only one terrorist group working on it will not have the scientists nor the resources available to build a nuclear weapon, thus they'd be looking at stealing one. I'm not sure how well it'd go if they have a go at that...

Military capability of nations compared to terrorists.

Military capability of nations compared to terrorists.

Directed at who? Where? How? Do you want a land invasion? So that means you need occupy the country. That means you risk being seen as an invasion army occupying the country, which will cause people to take up arms against you, even if they're not terrorists. Will you make sure you have the support of the nation first? In that case you lose the element of surprise and risk the terrorists going elsewhere or setting up effective human shields, meaning any action you take against them becomes a war crime.

Answer all that.

We have more advanced technology than most these terrorists.

We have aircraft they can't shoot down with there Cold War era weaponry.

We could destroy most there resources and factories and move in.

We would also benefit from countries to stop supplying anything to the terrorists which is possible.

But when you look at statistics and in the western world; so called members of the "religion of peace" aren't the main threat to western security, though they are still a large threat.
90% of all "terrorist attacks" in America, were conducted by non-muslims, but why is that they never get the label as a terrorist, when in reality, they are still killing innocent people.
Of the more than 300 American deaths from political violence and mass shootings since 9/11, only 33 have come at the hands of Muslim-Americans, according to the Triangle Center on Terrorism and Homeland Security.

No, because - like Jon Snow - you know nothing.

We've had greater technology that terrorists forever. So what are we doing "wrong" according to you that would make the difference?
What tactics do you think we're using that's wrong? What should we be doing?
Do you have better methods for countering insurgency? What are the armed forces doing now to counter insurgency that's wrong?

If you can't answer the above questions, you have no right to say we should do something - because you don't have a clue what's going on. You're just a kid trying to be clever, but you need to be told that you're not.

What we need to be doing:

Working together as nations:

With recent advancements such as unmanned drones we can deal with the terrorists without loss of life from people which protects military staff fighting against these threats. (We need to produce more drones)

When it comes to dealing with them we need to form an exclusion zone around the area's they operate and stop anything from going in or out of these areas as we have globally enough soldiers to guard these zones.
(Stops direct combat in cities and stops supply's getting in. Starving / Stopping them)

Wrong tactics:

Not investing enough in countering terrorism.

Not coming together as nations to combat the problem.

Allowing people to move through Europe from these places.

If we make these changes as a world terrorism will be ended much sooner.
