This is an interesting development, what do you all think?

That I find hard to believe
It shows that muslim communities need to sort out their disgusting homophobia which gave this man his dangerous self-hatred.
So Islam is the problem?

Who knew.

probably that none of the gay guys wanted his dick lmao
he IS gay. he wasn't homophobic, probably just jealous at other gay people getting laid and he getting none due to his religion.
I get that a few closeted gay guys deal with the fact that they're gay by being ridiculously homophobic - it comes up pretty often in the news.

But I'm still sick of the whole idea of all violence against the LGBT+ community being done by closeted gay people etc. It always seems to be a way for straight people to go "Oh, well, it only happened because they were gay and self-hating!!!!!!!1!!!" Like, yeah, okay, sometimes. But it minimises the suffering that the LGBT+ community goes through to suggest that all this violence is down to self-hating gays and not mostly homophobic straight people, who are the ones passing laws barring them from marrying/adopting/having basic human rights/having the right not to get summarily executed (depending on your country).

Spoiler

Self-loathing. Have you noticed how the people with the biggest hang-ups about homosexuality are usually the ones in the closet?

E.g. that American pastor (I can't remember his name) who argued with Richard Dawkins about homosexuality being a sin, and then a few months after the documentary was made got into trouble for having a gay affair.

Well yes, but their religions cause the self loathing in the first place. All the Abrahamic faiths are irrationally evil towards homosexuality, which in turn causes self loathing in those who aren't straight and follow the religions.

Both cases are examples of this self hating manifesting in different ways.
Maybe it was some way of trying to prove himself? It sounded like he didn't like being accused of being gay, so this was some kind of a ****ed up "I'M NOT" cry... :dontknow:

Yes you can, well done. But the homophobia stems from Islam in this case.

Bulls**t.

You really think gay people who aren't Muslim or have no religion at all don't struggle with internalised homophobia at some point or another? Have you come across notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer? Or the Belgian man who recently asked to be euthanised because he couldn't accept his sexuality?

In case you haven't noticed, most of the world today is still very homophobic - the US included. There may be laws around the world to protect people, but society has yet to fully evolve, and homophobic attacks occur on a daily basis.

His personal religious beliefs may well have contributed to his internalised homophobia, but it's unfair to place all the blame on religion when there are clearly other spheres of his identity (i.e. an Afghan-American living in America).
I knew it. So obvious he was gay from the start, extreme religion and jelousy dont mix well.
It's incredibly common for LGBT people, full of self-hate, to act in a homophobic way towards other members of their own community. Just like school bullies, it's a way of dealing with their own insecurities.

Remember what the father of the shooter said? He said that "God should punish the gays". You can see where the shooter's self-hatred has come from. Clearly he would not have been accepted and loved by his family.

This is an extreme example of what external homophobia can do... and of course, it in no way excuses what he did. But hopefully people will realise what affect it can have on people if they are alienated from their family and their religion just because of their sexuality.

Western homophobia does not compare to that seen in Islamic nations, they have the complete opposite laws.

Rather than trying to protect homosexuals they persecute them and some even kill them because of it. This is not on personal level like you see in the West, this is on a national level.

What are you talking about? Which Islamic nation was he living or raised in? He was American, raised in America, and living in America.

Homophobia exists in America, in addition to many other forms of discrimination and prejudice.

Try stepping in to the shoes of a minority within a minority, living in a country that is at war with your home country. You feel rejected inside your home because of your sexuality, and you feel rejected outside of your home because of your sexuality AND your race, and religion.

With no real sense of belonging, it doesn't really take much for an already unhinged person with violent tendencies to lose the plot.
