Liberalism 45 marker
Intro: definition of liberalism- brief over view on their emphasis on individual liberty etc

Is a divide
- negative freedom (freedom from constraint allow the individual to develop, nightwatchman etc) and positive freedoms (role of the state welfare provision and how state should help those unable to help themselves etc)
-modern and classical views of the roles of intervention so minimallistic or not- modern and classical view of type of govt democracy so direct and representative and I talked about the prison and cons of each
- I also mentioned neo liberal view of free markets but wasn't sure if that was right?

Not a divide
-individual freedom and liberty is priority
-their emphasis on merit
- I linked in social Darwinism and counteracted it with modern thinking using Greens quote of poverty
-how liberals fear an arbituary govt and prefer limited govt I backed each point up with political thinkers

I can't remember what else I added in but this is the gist of it

For some reason I'm scared lol
I feel my answer isn't as two sided as it should be ahh

I said something along the lines of "although all liberals do believe in the need for a state in order to protect the rights and liberties of the individual and to ensure that liberty does not become licence, they disagree over the role of the state to a great extent as CL endorse a minimal state, which underpins the ideas of negative freedom and freedom of choice, whereas ML endorse an enabling state, which underpins the ideas of positive freedom and human flourishing".

So what you said isn't wrong, I just summed up all my arguments at the end into a "they are united, however..."

Hmm you no the feeling when you read other answers and then you become unconfident

For Pressure group 15 marker. Did people talk about roles such as representation, education etc. Or did they talk about iron triangles, revolving door and direct action??

Iron Triangle
revolving door
Methods they use are illegal at times

Yeah I feel like my argument was two sided enough
Especially when I'm reading everybody's answered here. I kinda talked about classical liberalism and then moved to modern. Hmm
Probs got a D in this
Hi guys,
I'm a little worried about my 15 marker regarding liberalism and rationalism as i forgot the main point about it allowing rational individuals to break from paternalism thus enlarging their freedom :frown:
I put these points -

rationalism upholds toleration (Mill 'free market' of ideas that allows rational individuals to pick and choose the best ideas thus progressively banishing ignorance, and ensuring individuals are judged on merit rather than irrational factors such as race

rationalism reduces the chances of conflict as it enables rational individuals to discuss matters peacefully (neutral umpire that evaluates arguments)

rationalism enables each generation to progress from the past (forgot explicitly say liberals see history in terms of progress

how do you guys think id do with those arguments?

Oh right okay. I did the one about marxist vs anarchist view on the state and socialists supporting collectivism. Wbu?

I wrote that there are major differences/ Disgareement with Marxism, in regards to the transition from Capitalism to communism,Marx stressed the need for the dictatorship of the proleteriat to act as a transitionary socialist phase in which the state would wither away once communism was achieved.

Anarchists see no distinction between the bourgeois state and the proletarian states- both are oppressive and corrupting in nature

Similarities few- both see the need for a stateless society, both advocate revolutionary change, collective ownership, communal living - both believe that human beings can live in harmony without political authority

That is literally what I put, I felt my 15 markets were short, no more than 2 pages with 3 small paragraphs!!! I need a B in politics overall and I'm scared I won't get it :frown:(

what points did you include for the liberalism 45 marker?

- Introduction of liberalism
- classical and modern liberals differ on states role on:
- on individualism (atomistic vs developmental)
- on freedom (negative vs positive)
- on equality and justice ( stress on meritocracy compare to equality of opportunity)
- on economic grounds (Adam Smith free market against J.M Keynes economic management)
- on social welfare (compare social darwinism to social liberalism)
- on political life (classical liberals emphasis on - utilitarianism, natural rights, and neo liberalism compared to modern liberals emphasis on positive freedom further explained with T.H Green and also individuality)

all points linking to question too, something like that! hopefully it gets me the marks i need

I actually want to cry
I've failed.i didn't mention much on what they agreed on and it was a 'to what extent' question . I mainly talked about what they disagree on.
Probs got a D or E. Sad times for me

No dont worry! If you emphasis on what they both agree on for those areas, then just extra marks! However, if you talked about what they disagree on for the role of state then still a lot of marks given?!

You did not fail, its the interpretation of the question that everyone can differ on and write different marks but does not mean you lose marks!

Those sound about right! I wrote largely the same - that's basically what the Heywood textbook says and if you essentially parrot the textbook/points you're fine. Indicative content isn't exhaustive so you'd get marks for writing about rationalism in defence of the free market etc. Hope this helps, good luck with unit 4!
Feminism is unlikely to be the 45 marker right?

Gonna try and work some out now

Ah. I'm hoping for a nationalism 45 marker (which I think will turn up) and feminism 15 markers. :colondollar:

I think it'll be
- Nationalism
- Multiculturalism
- Ecologism

Then two 15m for Feminism (because feminism has come up 5 years in a row)
