Glad someone feels the same way :/ I had no clue what I was doing. I've definitely got the last question wrong and the first page was nasty. I completely messed up some of the equations too. Uuuh i'm so disappointed. We still have C7

I know, I was really confused most of the paper. Although it was my weakest unit it annoyed me that there was pretty much nothing on C6 - as I've spent all morning revising it! Although thank got there wasn't a 6 marker on titrations!!! I really didn't like much of it at all. And oh god, don't remind me about C7 :frown: haha

And tbh I'm surprised they can even use them 👎🏻

I put 50g too and worked it out properly.

I think the right answer is Pb2+ + 2e- > Pb but I put Pb2+ > Pb2 - 2e- which I'm not sure might be kind of right rearranged?

I was just flicking through the paper silently panicking :thumbsdown:Yeah ikr, all i remember is salt and stupid mendeleev. I really want someone to make an unofficial mark scheme, might help me sleep at night. So sad the environment didn't come up, that's my specialism. I'm gonna do C7 now, come on - it's not that bad :biggrin: i want to cry now though omg

yes but the way i did it is that we do this thing called "drop and swap" to work out the formulae of things e.g. magnesium chloride is Mg(2+) and Cl(1-) so doing drop and swap, the formula is MgCl2. (i'm sorry if that makes absolutely no sense.)

so the formula given was PbBr2 so working backwards i worked out that the charge of the lead would be 2+ but i have no idea if that is correct!

I got the same half-equation as you. I would have thought that lead would form a 4+ ion since it's in group 4 but it seems that it forms a 2+ (?)...

I put something like Pb4e- > PB + 4e, lead is in group 4 so needs 4 electrons to fill its outer shell

Yeah that was my reasoning. Also because the overall charge on the bromine ions was 4- (as it was 2 x 2-) but apparently that's wrong. According to bitesize it should be what everyone else has put :frown:
I definitely messed up the last question, most people here said they did a diagonal from left, middle, right. Mine was from right, middle, left. I had like 4 seconds left at the end so just ticked random boxes

Lead is in group 4, which confused me, but it's one of those weird ones like iron I think, where it's like Lead (II)? I don't know how it works, but I just remembered that lead was Pb2+

I know, it was the middle of the paper that really just made me want to give up! All I remember is bloody diamond and graphite and it didn't even come up :frown: same, I'd contribute but I got lots wrong haha. I'm glad the environment didn't come up - that's where I always go wrong. I'm doing P456 today ahead of Thursday. That should be nice, I love physics :biggrin:

Well yeah, but both of them apparently had a charge of 2? Which would not have made sense seeing as how there were 2 Bromine atoms and only 1 Lead atom (and they have to balance)

The correct half equation makes no sense to me at all.

i did middle right right too but no offence to you, i was literally making up science to justify in my head why i chose them ones (a.k.a guesses). but hey, i still have hope!

I really liked that paper funnily enough, a couple things were confusing but not too bad. Did you have to discuss bonds forming vs breaking on the last 6 marker, as im sure that is part of C7. I simply discussed what the graphs showed and what it meant in terms of energy


I was thinking about discussing the breaking and making of binds but I saw a makeup scheme I think for 2013 on the same topic (energy level graphs) and it says no marks credited for speaking of this
anyone know what the grade boundaries will be like?
