Discussion: "Why can't people who are against fat acceptance mind their own business"

Original post by bubblegumcat
i'm not talking about you specifically but there are a lot of people who do. Why can't people like you just mind their own business?

Regarding bubblegumcat's comment: > It's people who "mind their own business" that f*cuk everyone over. It's selfish.

Say, for example, someone is dying next to you...
What? Do you mind your own business?
No, you try save them.

How does this link in with the subject at hand?

These people are dying PLUS spreading it around and making OUR society accept it.
Think about it. Think what it ACTUALLY is.

It's people who are majorly unhealthy.
- Full of disease
- No self-discipline
- No self-control
- Pitiful - No self-respect

Then they want people to accept it as "normal" which then exacerbates the situation, which leads to more fat and unhealthy people.

It SHOULD NOT be accepted. More so, dealt with.
What happened to the society of HEALTHY, FIT people?

Preferably,
Make your point.
Provide one piece of evidence
Explain your point.

I'm going to get a lot of hate for this but what can you do? You can't please everyone.
I am not a hate-filled person. I don't hate or dislike anyone. If anything, I'm the most unbiased person I know who looks at both sides before making a final judgement.

I don't need to be told how to format a reply. This was a bit of a mess to read so perhaps follow your own formatting advice?

Now...Is somebody that is slightly obese dying? Is that really the prognosis? Is the quality of life for obese individuals really that bad? (Remember what the definition of obese is - it's not just massively obese people who require a modified fire truck to escort them to the hospital at 35 because they're about to die. It's not just people who haven't seen their penis in 20 years - there are different levels of obesity)

Do you have the same attitude towards smoking and drinking?

And I don't have a stick up my ass..?

Edit: I just noticed NOTE [2] : THIS ALSO APPLIES TO EQUALLY AS UNDERWEIGHT PEOPLE.

This is very ignorant. The fact I've talked about mental health down below is really important here. It's very closely related. You haven't done your research so I won't be too aggressive..

Second Edit: I see you are editing your OP :colone:

1) I formatted my post in that way since long-winded paragraphs bore people and I want to keep their attention.

2) Fat acceptance should not be spread. End of.

3) I'm against smoking, fast food and drinking too, but this thread is about fat acceptance - since having a cigg here and there or a drink every so often isn't as detrimental as being clinically fat - is it?

4) I said "may" for those that do have a stick up their ass. You don't. So hurrah for you?

is it that deep that you had to make your own thread? of course i would help an obese person if they needed it...but the majority of fat/obese people don't seem to care for your help lmao. I don't think i'm the one with a stick up my ass here...

I think the quality of a post is the most important factor in keeping attention - not necessarily the content.

Well that's not much of a discussion is it.

That's great. But you used the example

"someone is dying next to you...

What? Do you mind your own business?
No, you try save them."

Well, how far can we extend that? That's why I mentioned smoking/drinking because I'm trying to highlight there are many aspects of health. Do we concern ourselves with other peoples smoking/drinking habits? What about mental illness? Is the publics mental health our business - it certainly causes people to do dangerous things to themselves? Where do we draw the line at what concerns us and what doesn't. Why only reduce that to peoples weight.

I know this is about fat acceptance - but hopefully posing these questions makes you actually think.

1) Yes, I had to make a thread. Nothing is stopping me from making one.

2) You're contradicting yourself now that you've been put on the spot.

3) I have no stick up my ass, I just checked, no metaphorical one either.

Having a campaign run to make society accept others for being unhealthy is what the problem is.

Telling people it's okay, it's acceptable to be obese and unhealthy.

When is it ever okay to spread such ideas?

In regards to your point about smoking and drinking. Have you ever seen a campaign that tell society that it's okay to: smoke and drink to the point it becomes extremely detrimental to your health?

The contrary, there are campaigns to LIMIT drinking and there are NO campaigns at all in regards to smoking.

...Again, follow your own formatting? Provide the evidence that there is a state-funded campaign that exists that actively promotes obesity.

Then:

i said if they needed it. Most fat/obese people don't even care for yours...or even my input on their health, therefore i'll mind my own business, but if they did want some help then yeah i will help them. I'm aware being obese is not healthy but i've seen plenty of fat/obese people live normal lives, if it was seriously affecting them then i'm sure they would do something to change that
