CALCULATIONS

Spring constant = 100 Newtons per metre

Force of 3 springs = 0.25 * 100 * 4 = 300 N

Power exerted during chip up = 52 W

Resistance of fixed resistor = 600 Ohms

Total voltage = 9 + 3 = 12 V

Total mass of jetpack and rider = 84 Kg

Acceleration of jetpack rider = 22m/s^2
The jetpack rider will stay balanced as long as the resultant force on him is 0

Current = 0.015 Amps

6 MARKER

Alpha - Range of 3 - 5 cm, deflected by positive pole of magnetic field, least penetrating and stopped by paper.
Beta - Range of 15 cm, stopped by aluminium sheet, penetrates paper, deflected by negative pole of magnetic field.
Gamma - Unlimited range, not deflected as it is uncharged and stopped by thick lead blocks.

Alpha particle made of 2 neutrons and 2 protons

What happens when atom is ionised?
It loses an electron and becomes charged.

What is nuclear fusion?

Small nuclei joining to form bigger nucleus.

STARS

How does a star form?

Gas and dust clump together by gravity, and get denser and hotter. Nuclear fusion occurs and energy and light emitted.

Why can scientists now observe brown dwarfs?

Modern Telescopes have better ranges and resolution.

What does gas ring around other stars show?
Shows that planets are being created elsewhere in the universe.

Why are heavier elements that iron present on earth?

Heavier elements that iron are made in supernova explosions, the earth has elements heavier than iron due to stars exploding.

BALL BEARING

The ball bearing travels faster in hot oil, and so has a smaller drag force as the hot oil is less dense.

Error source?

Students reaction time. He will press stopwatch a little later.

Anomaly caused by starting timer too early

Resolution of voltmeter? 0.01 V Suitable because small changes in voltage can be observed.

I got 0.06 for the current

pretty sure it was 0.015 Bro

do u remember what calculation you did to get 0.015?

Yup! So the voltage across the Variable resistor was 3 volts when the resistance was 200 Ohms. I = V/R So Current = 3/200 2 which is 0.015 A

also do u roughly remember the question for the answer 800m/s?

When did you get asked to calculate the speed of a wave?

Oops I think that was in the P3 paper my bad! I'll take it off now.

it was 1600

Speed = d/t distance was 4 cm time was 50 * 10^-6 that gives 800?

0.04 times by 2 gives 0.08 , the distance was there and back so you had to x by 2

so 0.08/ 0.00005

lol. Thought so xd. For that, I got 666.7?
distance between skin and baby or something was 4cm=0.04m

0.04m/30x10^-6secondsx 0.5 = 666.7m/s??
What boundary do you think it would be for an A* in P2 (and P3 for triple science)?

The time was 50x10^-6 seconds because its 80 - 30. That would give 800 m/s

Are you sure the distance was to the skin and back? I am pretty sure it was only one way?

convert 4cm to metres so 0.04m and the distance was 30*10^-6 because didnt the question say that the skin was the first boundary or something?

People said it was a hard exam so they might lower the boundaries. About 44/60?

the time of 50 x 10^-6 was the time the pulse was emitted and then RETURNED back.

I really can't remember if it was the distance to the skin or the distance to the skin and back. But the time was definitely 50*10^-6
