HI,
I tried to cancel what each owed to the other and work out the remainder, but then I get fred owe 100 to bill and billl owe joe 50.
I know the correct answer is B, from the markscheme.
But can't get it.
Please help.
Thanks

fred owes bill 300 -
joe owes bill 200 -
fred owes joe 100
bill owes joe 250 -
joe owes fred 150
bill owes fred 200 -

this is what the question tells us
working through systematically

joe owes bill 200 and bill owes joe 250 = bill owes joe 50
fred owes bill 300 and bill owes fred 200 = fred owes bill 100
fred owes joe 100 and joe owes fred 150 = joe owes fred 50

so yeah basically I don't know what the answer will be my working is probably wrong lmao damn is this really a GCSE question... I do alevel maths lol.

Either none of the answers are correct.

or......

It wants you to form a continuous string as perhaps they just settle net payments. Since Fred pays Bill 100, and Bill pays Joe 50, Joe is going to pay Fred that 50 anyway, so cut out the middle-man (which is Joe), and Fred just pays Bill 50.

Guess it could be that, but awkwardly worded.
