Is it normal a straight guy to feel uneasy around homosexuality?

I just get this feeling whenever I see gays making out or whatever. I wouldn't say disgust, because that's a pretty vile way of describing love, I just guess it's because I'm straight that I feel this way..

I see no problems here at all.

1. Not by choice, again.

2. That would mean you like both. If you're trying to compare this to sexuality, that would make you bisexual.

3. Yes... and?

In reply to number 2, many people lead closeted lives where they aren't actually attracted to the gender they're with but stay together due to external reasons such as religion, family and a homophobic society. Someone could be homosexual but stay in heterosexual relatioships but if they only experience same-sex attraction then they would still be homosexual. Sexuality is about attraction not behaviour.

1. I don't dispute that... at all.

2. Trying is different from feeling. This is the distinction I am making and yes, you can know you're not attracted to something/someone before trying it. It is different with food products and so on. They're a weak comparison

3. ...

Thanks. I am straight and I have never tried because I just know. Interesting conversation topic.

We will have to agree to disagree here. If you're truly 100% hetrosexual, you wouldn't even be able to get an erection when attempting to have sex with a guy. Let alone actually sleeping with them.. It's nothing to do with society vs the truth. To be able to allow yourself to sleep with someone of the same gender there must be at least some attraction. I know for sure that I simply couldn't sleep with the same gender. It's not a case of it being unlikely like in your case. it's that it won't happen. If a gay person still believed in their heart that they could sleep with women I don't think they're fully gay.

I could easily echo what you've said and say any guy that sleeps with another guy then claims they're straight is lying to themselves lol

And this is just a massive generalization. So much so that it's incorrect. If it was really anywhere remotely close to "all of science" then I wouldn't be here saying we don't have a definite answer. There's enough difference in opinion in the science world to say we aren't sure yet. Think about how many mental illnesses that the medical world has so little idea about. At the moment the best we can do is provide hormone pills and give therapy.

There's quite a few illneses where we could potentially use gene therapy to insert various alleles into cell nuclei in order to stop a disease since we know what that codes for. Off the top of my head I can think of cystic fibrosis. But with the brain? Nope.

Genetically, as far as I'm aware we know very little, The brain is incredibly complexed and constantly goes through not only chemical, but also physical changes when we learn new information. Maybe people might be born gay (I haven't actually said otherwise lol). But I wouldn't be surprised if in many years time when the brain is much better understood, we find out that it can be both.

Lastly, I've always wondered why "born gay or not" was heavily debated in the first place. Why would it matter in terms of gay rights or acceptance? I don't understand why people would think being able to choose invalidates anything or sets the LGBT movement back? It's not like being able to choose would mean discriminating against people who do choose is ok.

With all due respect, you don't have to be erect to be receptive of sex from a man and most gay porn actors are not gay - they prep for the scene beforehand and make themselves ready for sex. Also, it depends on your attitude to sex. Do you think sex is sex regardless? Or do you think sex is specific? That does not mean you are attracted or not to a particular partner - sex is not a feeling, it is an action. A base pleasure.

Not really because your premises are different from mine - it doesn't really work if you follow it all the way through with that example.

It is not a massive generalisation - that is how science works. Theories are made according to falsifiable, verifiable, evidence. Then, assumptions are made and conclusions are drawn. One can be bloody sure without being 100% certain.

And that example of mental health proves my point - assumptions are made based on what we do know, little or not.

It matters because of the agruments used against homosexuality. Perhaps you don't live in the real world, pal.

Exactly my point.

Didn't mean to like your post. Stupid thumb!

You shouldn't have even made this thread, tbh. You obviously can't control your thoughts and it's good that you support gay marriage, but as soon as you vocalise how you are "disgusted" by it, it no longer comes across as though you are respectful and tolerant. It seems rude, and yes - homophobic.

I never said I was disgusted...

Having sex with men does not make you gay.

It doesn't make you straight either.

No straight man is going to have consensual sex with another man.

A guy has to like another guy to want to have sex with said guy, making him bisexual or full out gay.

Plenty of straight men do gay for pay, and are those 'lesbians' you see in porn really lesbians?

What about the closet cases who have Hetero sex to kid themselves?

Not true. Sex = act. Sexual attraction = attraction, feeling, whatever. Not an action.

Sex and sexual attraction are intertwined.

If you're a guy who has sex with guys, it's likely you're attracted to guys, otherwise you wouldn't do it.

That they are but not absolutely connected.

The key word here is likely.

They do it for the pay, not the sensation/pleasure.........

Pretty sure they're in denial and I'm pretty sure they don't enjoy it as much.
That's pretty normal yes. I am bisexual (male) but when I see 2 lesbians kiss I do find it kinda weird, even though I am completely accepting of individual lifestyles.

It's either down to instinct or just the way you've been brought up (e.g. someone brought up around men kissing wouldn't feel that way) and certainly from your first line of text, you don't seem homophobic.

Why do I even bother.

I don't know, because you're wrong but want to prove a stupid point, maybe?

Girls like seeing two guys kiss, so it balances it out.

What about bicurious people? They might have sex with the same gender and realise it's not for them.

Sometimes people aren't 100% straight or gay and their attraction to one gender isn't strong enough to identify as bi.

I'm predominantly gay for example but I get occasional superficial sexual thoughts about girls, I might try stuff with them one day, but I can't see myself in a relationship with a girl, and my attraction to men feels more natural and deep than it does with women, so I don't identify as bi but I'm not 100% gay either.

It's not that black and white

Exactly! Do people want me to be turned on my 2 guys kissing to "accept" the sexuality?

I do understand gay relationships though.

Of course not; don't be bloody stupid.

It just means don't diminish them because of it.
"disgust" is probably too strong a word; it's perfectly fine to feel "weirded out" because you can't relate.
Even if you did feel an instinctive disgust; that's all right; it's your right.

As long as you don't discriminate against them, or hold prejudices.
(And for example, didn't think they were all paedophiles.)
(And you support same-sex marriage, which is a big win win, because otherwise it'd be institutionalised discrimination.)

But it's beyond stupid of an idea for you having to be attracted to the same sex to accept it, and I doubt most people think that (and I don't know how you got that impression) so you have nothing to worry about.

Girl + girl = turn on
guy + guy = disgust.

sounds like homophobia to me. You just wanna sound like you're not homophobic. But props to you for being for same sex marriage.

perhaps he meant "guy + guy = weirded out" (disgust is too strong a word)
