Where is the fine line between trolling and banter?

I have often been accused of trolling but in my own defense it was actually a silly attempt at banter.

How about doing neither? :sigh:

I think it's a fluid line and varies from situation to situation. Being able to tread it is an art, not a science. And one which, unfortunately, many in TSR have not mastered.

The TSR community isn't exactly the best for banter

If you have a long rep bar, it's banter
If you don't, it's trolling

My own definition of trolling is:

1.

attempting to cause butthurt/offence for the primary purpose of self-gratification; or

2.

being a dick and then claiming it's "banter."

Shut up and admit you're a troll.

what is your definition of banter then?

Light humour between friends which doesn't openly claim itself to be banter.

"Banter" is just another cretinous buzzword that needs to be forgotten.
Banter is for chavs and working class people

It's an intuitive art, and doesn't take much effort despite what may be perceived. It's flows from the heart like natural spring water flows from mountain peaks into the ice cold glaciers of social interaction.
