Take a look at how much of Scotland's trade is with the UK, compare it to how much is with the rest of the EU, factor in how oil revenue is going and then think again.

Scottish trade with the UK is more than four times that with the EU. Even trade with the non-EU countries is higher the EU trade. Scotland's biggest extra-UK trade partner is the USA.

Okay, and UK do most of their trade with the EU. What is your point?

I'm choosing the lifeboat, not the anchor.

Is there? Who? Cameron has gone.

No. He has announced his intention to go when he can be replaced in an orderly manner. He is still PM.

But it's also about democracy

Need to find some more people to rep (not an easy task some days on here) before I can rep you again

Suppressing the political will and rights of millions of people after they've been shafted isn't clever. It can lead to violence. I'm not threatening anything, simply stating what will happen.

Funny. Looks like he's still in no 10... He's announced he will leave, not that he has left. There is always a PM. We won't have 4 months of no leader of the government.

No. The UK has roughly the same trade (which is growing) with non-EU countries, and has a positive trade balance with them (£31 billion). We have a £68 billion trade deficit with the EU (and the trade is a shrinking proportion). We gain more from non-EU exports than EU exports.
I don't have the appetite for another ref just yet (feeling serious election/referendum fatigue and feel like I have heard enough political rhetoric to last a lifetime), but want it to happen at some point- my worry is that we might still lose as people may still plump for staying with the rUK over going it alone as it means we are still in some sort of union with other countries for trade etc, especially when we don't know how easy its going to be for us to get back in to the EU once the UK has left, or how stable the EU will be once the UK has left.

Great, he can approve it then.

I mean, it's almost like you don't care about sovereignty at all.

I also assume the UK doesn't need any of that trade and can just abandon it. I mean, who needs food and electricity anyway?

Trying to throw economic arguments when we've just committed economic suicide is pretty ridiculous imo.
I thought the left were in support of democracy and the democratic will of the people? The Leave campaign won by a margin of 4%, which is a comfortable victory from any angle. The fact that some on the left are stirring up hatred and disharmony because they are unhappy with the result of the referendum is an assuring sign that some "progressives" only support democracy when it satisfies their political agenda. Scotland may have voted to remain a member of the European Union, but 38% also chose to leave it, as too did 53% in Wales and 44% in Northern Ireland. This referendum campaign has been lasting for months, and those who chose not to vote and are unhappy with the results are plain morons and hypocrites. Just to remind you, if the voter turnout had been higher, especially in working class areas where it's traditionally low, the support for Leave would have been higher.

Obviously, sovereignty is an issue too. But Scots are noted for keeping their hands on their wallets, aren't they? Scotland can survive as an independent nation, certainly.

To say that leaving the EU is economic suicide is preposterous.

Ah yes, obviously the Scots must remain in the UK because they are tight. Why couldn't I see that before.

It's what the rest of the world with little to no vested interest is saying, along with all the experts the leave campaign hates. Apparently a lot of people are being preposterous.

The EU is a bigger potential trading partner than rUK, it's as simple as that. Plus who knows, maybe we'll manage to form a vastly superior trading relationship with rUK despite not being part of it because why wouldn't they want our trade at any cost? That seems to be the current logic floating around.

Just announced by Nicola Sturgeon, no confirmed date, but some time before we officially leave the EU.

This is the start of the break-up of the UK. Northern Ireland will follow.

Wow just wow. What a bloody mess.

Scots are a boisterous lot but they're not stupid e.g. supposing they do request + we do grant them another referendum in the near future re:

Declining oil revenue and major economic deficit since the SNP have presided over Scottish finances

Fact we won't let them keep the pound - meaning they'd have to be tied to the Euro/fate of the Eurozone

Having to establish a firm border with England, seriously harming Scottish trade, commerce, and industry

With white-Brits now firmly in minority, an Islamist mayor running it, and casino banks ruling it?- careful what you wish for! :erm:

What's White Brits got to do with it? Nobody asked them To leave London.

As I've posted elsewhere, Scotland just wants to have some say over its own future. (Think "Take back control.")

Sadly the pressures of mass-immigration/failure of state multiculturalism (Cameron, 2011) and domination of Crony Capitalism (see labour vs. housing markets) have effectively forced millions of us out. Realtalk

Scotland last had "control" >300 years ago. UK last had control <30 years ago. Hopefully you can see a distinction here, among other areas

Every time an immigrant family move down the road, they no longer want to live there? We should be embracing multiculralism and integration, instead of upping and leaving to places outside of London with fewer foreigners . Anyway,I won't be shedding a tear. They chose to leave, some are low key racists anyway who can't stand being next to foreigners. Their loss really

The Scottish have a right to have another referendum after this result; they overwhelmingly voted to stay in the EU, so they shouldn't be dragged down by England and Wales.
Original post by Foo.mp3
Not without condition, as you yourself have said

Naturally

Erm, thanks? :erm:

Exactly so!

See,I respect your family. They've stayed in London
Others who complain of immigrants taking over just annoy me and anyway, with certain areas of London being gentrified we are seeing more white middle class Brits moving back into the 'ghettos' of London.

Dragged down? We're the only thing propping them up right now! (look at their books). Please join us in the real world, we'd love to have you :h:

By down she clearly meant out of the EU against their wishes. However if you feel strongly about how much of a drain Scotland is on the UK then I'm sure you'll be happy to have them gone.
