By destroying democracy, some people who have signed this also support taking the vote against poor people how is that helpful and saving the country?

If you really think ignoring the people's wishes will save this country you are deluded there is already a divide between the public and parliament and parliament not doing its job will lead to at least more ukip MPs and possibly even a further right party.

Pretty undemocratic and naive call really. At least wait 6 months till the negotiations are getting sticky and people grasp that the NHS is not going to be richly funded and everyone in the nation able to live in a 6 bedroom house and drink champagne daily.

The only thing that is undemocratic is stripping 16/17 year olds, people who are most affected by this, of a say in the vote. They would have won otherwise.

On top of that, if there is a re-run (which there won't be likely), leave will likely lose as the remain voters who underestimated the idiot class to turn out in the swarms that they did will actually vote this time.

For that reason, no Brexit PM will ever call a referendum on it, as they know the people will vote to stay. Hence it is undemocratic.

funny that they made a petition with 354k signatures from the UK that we should stay in

BECAUSE I FOUND ONE WITH 17.4 MILLION SIGNATURES THAT WE SHOULD LEAVE BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHHAAH

What would these people have said if the situation had been reversed, eg. 52/48 for Remain and Brexiters making a petition for a new vote?

I have no doubt that the remain side would acknowledge the divide and called for a 2nd referendum

"The people's wishes" were largely based on lies and misinformation. We're leaving the EU because people were lied to by officials claiming that we could be better off outside.

Now, we face a future where the UK's going to fall apart, the EU's going to fall apart, and all thanks to Farage the **** and a warped sense of nationalism.

Great.

By "officials" you mean politicians. two points: (a) it is in the job spec that all politicians lie and (b) the lies were fully exposed and debated during the referendum.

Obviously, Corbyn was not lying when he made the defining statement that migration has no upper limit while we are in the EU, but he was on the remain side so wasn't lying, just silly.

People have saw how things were going within the EU and didn't like so they have took a chance that things will improve.

If Scotland are always going to hold England to ransom despite getting more spent on them per head than the rest of the U.K. They can leave they don't get what they want over the majority of the people.

It is very simple. All those British people demanding a referendum are young and have been brought up in a culture of grade inflation and re-sits that allow you to improve your grade. Some, of course, hope they will be old enough to vote in a second referendum, and some were inconvenienced by a rain shower and seek extra time on the grounds of a disability (to own a raincoat).

A certain amount of truth to all that

How about calling for a 2nd Referendum... not wanting 65 y/os + to vote because "it's not their future"... how about refusing to understand that the majority have spoken... how about failing to understand what a true democracy is in the first place?!

The rest of your comment is laughable.

No. First of all, those people have not been stripped of anything, as they have never voted in national elections and referenda. Anyway, there aren't enough of them to make a difference even if they all voted the same way, especially as most of them would have been in bed taking advantage of the day off school.

yep

once the two-year period after the official exit request is over, and negotiations are (hopefully) completed, the result should be presented to the public for a new referendum, which could include a "remain" option

that would make sense
The fact of the matter is, even if there is a second referendum - which in itself is extremely unlikely - the reforms that Cameron fought to get would not be implemented as they were voided by Jean-Claude Juncker (President of European Commission) as a result of the vote to leave
Original post by The Roast
In that case you should blame Cameron and the rest of the Remain camp for incompetence AND Merkel.

I honestly blame the trade unions for sticking Ed ****ing Miliband into the leadership seat of the labour party. Had it been his actually electable brother David it would have been a hung parliament or a labour win more than likely and this mess would have never happened. If it did, at least the labour voting people would have listened to David Miliband I think. I don't think they wanted some old left winger crying about austerity. Working class Britian is full of nationalist loonies who hate immigration, these are the sort of people that swung the vote along with the idiot class.

David Cameron is being scapegoated in my opinion. Had he not called it he likely would have been too many UKIP defectors and he would have been ousted and replaced by a Brexiter who would have called it anyway. He did his best in my opinion, not his fault the UK is full of idiots.
The real lies came from the remain camp Camerons reversal speeches were hysterical.
The £350 million is a nice slur by the remainers but I can assure you only the very thickest didn't understand the rebate we got back. Its just so much sour grapes nonsense and pathetic Just as calling the leavers racist little Englanders pulling up the drawbridge
Now we have our democracy back you will soon see us land great trade deals and the EU become more democratic that maybe we might be able to join a more democratic EU For example if they have at least 3 opposition parties that we can elect in every 5 years and any new member a ne referendum for all the EU people to agree or disagree. The EU offered you remainers sweets and lies Brainwashing and propaganda and you fell for it But I can assure you You should prize democracy and you had a lucky escape. You will see by what happens in the future.

No the voting age is 18 it has been for years and it stayed at that age it would be undemocratic to include them to manufacture the result you would like, should we also include 5 year olds they have their future ahead of them?

They had their chance to vote they didn't use it.

There was a referendum on brexit people wanted to leave, you just want to capitalise on the uncertainty at the moment to get your own way.

"Remain" in what lol?

Don't you mean "Join the EU" vote?

I am quite sure many people voted to leave because of the hysterical and obvious over-blown predictions of war and the end of western civilisation as we know it.

If you have to go to those lengths you are desperate.

LMAO :toofunny:

Some people from Saudi Arabia and Sudan signed

Excellent. I'm sure the petitioner welcomes the rest of the world taking such an interest in the UK. Alongside all the home signatures.

We haven't closed the borders. Yet.

Edit to add: @EuanF - doesn't look like the json is up to date and/or complete... only 400,000 signatures in the country analysis?

Screen Shot 2016-06-25 at 15.32.06.jpg

86% of signatories are UK

And I seem to remember that British citizens are still allowed to live abroad. Even in Sudan, or Spain...

So, they weren't stripped of their right as they never had it! You've got to set some cut off age I guess.

Your 2nd point is very undemocratic and it's pretty idiotic if remain supporters choose not to vote.

Probably agree with your 3rd point. You might get another bite of the cherry by the time you hit 50, if you're lucky.

65+ had as much right as anyone else. But not allowing the youth to have a say is ridiculous as it is them who will miss out now. The majority are idiots who shouldn't have been given a say in the first place.

you under estimate the youth of this country. And they were stripped of a voice as it was blocked by old farts in parliament. doesn't matter if they 'don't usually get the vote'

And there were enough of them to make a difference. Certainly to make it considerable closer.
Those who wish to remain can vote Lib Dem in 2020 who will probably stick to being Euro-philes.
