How do you I become a private candidate to take an exam ?

Hi Guys,

I want to get my AS level Maths. How do I go about it as a external candidate. I want to self learn and do at a private centre. Can you guys tell me what is the procedure o do this. Thanks
I assume you just contact one of your local 6th form colleges or something and they can arrange that for you for a fee.

You need to contact other centres and ask if they will take you as a private candidate. You will need to pay for this.

A school or college that you have attended is 1) more likely to accept you 2) more likely to charge just the exam fee and little or nothing extra.

Any school or college is able to accept external private candidates but most don't because to be honest they are often a pain in the backside.

Contact any school or college that offers maths A level in your area. Speak to the exams office and ask if they will take you as a private candidate and what they would charge. Don't be surprised to be told £50 per exam.

You will find advice for private candidates on every examiners web site. It is worth reading before you contact possible centres. Some provide limited help finding an exam centre but info isn't always up to date.

I agree with everything GDunne42 says (PRSOM).

You need to look around for a centre in the Autumn. The entry deadline for next Summer is 21 February but centres will raise their fees for private candidates well before that so don't leave it until after Christmas as it make take some time. There are some centres that specialise in private candidates but they tend to be more expensive.

Thanks, guys.
Sorry - beem busy writing the school timetable - I've nothing to add but if you can find a school that does the same specification they are more likely to say yes.
