For the majority of people in the UK the only reason they can live a life of such relative luxury is because other people around the world like in relative poverty. I understand people wanting to preserve the advantages they were born with, but at some point the bubble has to burst.

I don't advocate a race to the bottom in terms of living standards, but so many people in this country need to get a grip and appreciate the opportunities that they have. Opportunities that billions around the world don't because they happened to be born in a less privileged country.

Unemployed, unskilled Brits need to stop *****ing about migrants and learn from them. We don't live in some socialist fantasy where you get a job just because of your nationality. You've got to earn it in a competitive labour market. The advantage migrants have is obvious, they are willing to migrant to find employment. Maybe Brits should be willing to show the same level of initiative and be willing to move to where there are jobs, rather than expecting employment to come to them.

Exactly. If they have the right skills, qualities, personality and personal appearance for the job, they're the one who should get the job. Unfortunately nationality doesn't override everything (obviously they would legally need the right to work status).

If you are worried about an immigrant 'stealing' your low skilled job then perhaps it is you who needs to evaluate whatever skills you currently have and improve them.

Didn't read the OP

People on benefits should get off their backsides and find work. The immigrants are doing the jobs that the average Brit on benefits would never do in a million years!

Most people on benefits arent scroungers  We had some people from the Job Centre do work experience at my gym, you have to search for work and apply for jobs all the time to get benefits despite what the Daily Mail tells you. Lots of employers would rather hire immigrants they can push around or even pay below minimum wage illegally. You sound naive.

The problem is these people are often low skilled, and there arent enough low skilled jobs. Did you read the OP

Fair enough, yes I accept that I am not very knowledgable in this area. However, the point that I raised is what I feel quite strongly about. Obviously, I should carry out some more research into the area before I start making assumptions - but I think that the point I raised does apply to a proportion of people on benefits.
I skimmed through the OP, apologies.

These low skilled people must have missed the bit at school where the teachers tell you unless you do your best and get some qualifications, you end up not even doing a low skilled job.

They did not listen, messed about and often disrupted the class, didn't do exams and now complaining no one wants to employ them despite their lack of qualifications or skills.

Thousands of graduates are on non-skilled jobs

Its up to individuals to find out what sort of job their degree qualifies them for, its not anyone else's responsibility to get them good jobs.

I really annoys me when people whinge about immigrants stealing their job when often, they have done little to make themselves employable in the first place.

And nowadays. there are plenty of opportunities to work for yourself either part time or full time. If you can't get a job, make a job for yourself instead of complaining and expecting a job to fall into your lap just because of where you were born.

Why is the Remain camp saying that leavers worrying about immigrants "taking our jobs" is racist?I work as a PT and dont worry about Europeans coming in to replace me. However, there aren't enough low skilled jobs in the UK

There are vacancies in things like nursing but not everyone can train to be a nurse.

Why cant this country have jobs for its own people first? Uncontrolled immigration (letting in EU people with no jobs) means its harder for working class British people to find work. People on benefits, or younger people with no work experience. Also, some employers are crooked and hire people from Eastern Europe who they pay under the minimum wage, or make them work illegal hours bc they dont know their rights.

It's a good question, but let me attempt to answer it.
First of all, it isn't just about immigration, it's also about the economy. If we stop people from coming here, EU migrants that is, we will have to stop our access to the single market. This will lead to a depression of the economy and banks, making it harder for businesses to take loans from banks, harder for people to fund their studies, harder for start-ups to rely on banks for starting up, all of this will lead to a reduced number of jobs and higher competition in the market for jobs. A weaker economy will also lead to reduced benefits and benefit cuts, which again will damage those people not in work, forcing them to look desperately for work which again will increase competition for jobs in the market and will make it harder for any individual to find a job.
To make my point clearer, I don't think the minimum wage will get a rise any time soon with all the Brexit stuff going on.

Why are these jobs "ours"? Do we have a divine right to get jobs by virtue of the location in which we're born? It's not racist to believe these things, but it's morally equivalent to racism. Racism is to systematically discount the interests of other people because of the colour of their skin; in this case, we're systematically discounting the interests of other people on the basis of the location on Earth in which they're born. (I'm not saying that people with these concerns are evil: racists attack other people who are doing them no harm. In this case, people with concerns about immigration have the - false - perception that immigrants are an important cause of their problems.)

Immigrants aren't taking our jobs, incidentally. You've fallen prey to the lump of labour fallacy: immigrants occupy jobs but they also create jobs. The more immigrants, the more investment and the higher the demand for consumer goods, leading to more jobs. That's why studies have found no effect of immigration on overall native employment: there's a small negative effect on the employment of low-skilled natives counterbalanced by a small positive effect on the employment of medium to high-skilled natives.

There are better ways to create jobs, one being to end the economically unnecessary austerity measures currently being inflicted on working-class communities and actually take advantage of record low interest rates to invest in long-term infrastructure projects, creating thousands of jobs in the process. This is something that both the IMF and the OECD have called for, and what Labour under Jeremy Corbyn are spearheading. We do not need to restrict immigration, which isn't a root cause of the problems that lower-skilled natives have.

Because of the trend of the "politically correct" trend. A society that is banned from making descriptive observations. It's terrible the way this country is being run. A illegal Mexican can come to our country and receive subsidized housing, habe EBT to feed his 20 kids and a free education. Most of them are work on construction jobs and gets paid under the illegal aliens should be deported and come back when they earn their citizenship. It should be mandatory for them to learn our language. They would have to report their earning for one year so they can start paying taxes. One more thing the options when you make a call always ask if you want to use Spanish. This should all be eradicated. Thanks for listening.
NOT A DIRTY OLD MAN.

If nobody wants them, it's because these jobs aren't paid enough. In a functional labour market, salaries would go up until people are willing to work for that wage.

The problem is that employers can import people from another country at no cost to work for a wage under what is acceptable for this effort.

Not everybody can do a skilled job. We shouldn't complain at poor people who don't want to do menial jobs on minimum wage all their life.

Before the 80s, most of them worked in the mines, in large factories, or in the fields; now the former two have closed and Poles work in the latter. Just imagine the distress of these people.

Surprising that low skilled worked voted Leave, innit?

People don't complain about high-skilled migrants. It always bugs me that immigration is often portrayed as a single bloc.

So the market is functioning.... The market just has one less barrier. Protectionist borders.
