Sweating for no reason?

Hi guys,

I need some help on why I'm sweating so much recently. I've noticed it over the last month that my arm pits are sweating a lot more than they ever usually do. I'm 17 and do get nervous but I don't think it's anxiety or anything.

It seems to happen when outside of home but I'm not even doing any exercise. For example at work or out on a weekend I can feel it literally RUNNING from my armpit!!! I don't think it smells and luckily you can't see it on my work uniform but I wore a grey top today and I now have a huge black patch :/

It makes me self conscious and then I feel like I can't take my jacket off because they'll see the sweat patches but this then makes me hotter and sweat more!!!

Why is this suddenly happening? Is it because it's got slightly warmer? Is it to do with hormones?? Anxiety??? Anyone else had this?

Thankss

You may have overreactive sweat glands where you sweat more than normal or it could be from the hot weather. If your in doubt consult your gp if anything. Alternatively you could try these it may help with reducing the visibilty of your sweat patches.

Hope thats helps

Thanks everyone, anyone know of any specialist deodorants?! Just find it weird that this is the first "summer" I've had this problem! (Not much of a summer atm).
Indeedy, just to add to the GCSE knowledge, basically there's part of your nervous system called the sympathetic nervous system. In certain situations it can have its tonic activity increased such as: anxiety, excitement, exercise etc and basically it causes increased sweat production.

To OP, don't worry about it. See a GP and see if they're got some prescription deodorants that work.
Yup!!! Just learnt some extra stuff on the autonomic nervous system and the histology of the sweat glands for those extra marks...
Use roll on antiperspirants - they contain aluminum chloride compounds (i think) Which blocks your sweat glands so you don't sweat as much - I found them to be quite effective although a little pricey.

Good luck for results! How'd you think you've done?Oh, you have to medicine right?

You considered medicine and or science a levels?
Driclor is great stuff

Apply last thing at night (make sure your skin is dry or it can sting), shower as normal in the morning and it blocks the sweat glands. You start off using it every day and then can reduce to twice a week.
Well good luck to you and I hope it goes well!!! People who work hard deserve what they get. I'm sure there's a tonne of A*s in your results transcript! I hope you reconsider medicine  the country needs all the doctors it can get!

Spoiler

No need to apologise! I was messing around earlier pretending to be a keen year 11, if a year 11 knew about the SympNS and histology, well then, wth? I barely knew it for my pre clin exams 😂

Yeah I did A levels years back and I'm more than halfway through medschool so fire away any Qs! Oh and your dream is totally achievable! I mean I did it so it's definitely possible and I just sort of drifted through school not knowing what's what 😂
How did this go from answering the op question to talking about science and med school lol

It happens to me at work and is annoying as hell. I assume it's a kind of nervous thing, as whilst I have no trouble putting myself out there in terms of attention on me, I'm naturally quite a nervous person. Doesn't happen when I'm in regular situations with friends or my better half.

It can be tempting to try and mask it, wearing jumpers over shirts etc, but I've found that masking it just makes it a bigger deal in my head.

Just remind yourself: People sweat. It's normal. Some rarely sweat, some sweat often. Unless you're reeking, and nervous sweat on people who shower every day rarely are like this, other people just have to deal with it.

I think it is a nervous thing because when I'm at work I'm just walking around and still get it. I'm going to look at a roll on deodorant and see if that helps.
Feel like even wearing a t shirt is risky now 😂
