If we have Black History Month why don't we have White History Month?

Still surely it doesn't mean we can't celebrate prominent figures of all races? Heck judging by your argument we should have an Indigenous people month aswell

..We definitely should. It's a shame we don't.
Do we even have a black history month in the UK? I thought it was just a US thing

Well, the main idea is that White people have contributed so much to the world over time that it would just be arrogant to dedicate a month to ourselves. It's basically considered rude to point out White accomplishments when other races may not have accomplished as much. That's not the nicest way to say it, but that's pretty much what it comes down to.

The other issue is that White people don't really like being lumped together. If you did create a White History Month, various nationalities would complain that it's predominately highlighting British and American achievements, and then ask for a German History Month, an Irish History Month, a French History Month, etc... and before you know it, everyone would want their own month, and there are only 12 to go around. Someone would be left out and angered.

The main reason Blacks were chosen to have their own month is because they need the most encouragement. They have no large countries or great empires to their name like Whites and Asians do. So we throw them a bone and remind them that despite the bad luck of their people over time, they still have contributed a lot and are meaningful. Think about it... if you're White, you can think about ancient Rome. If you're Asian, maybe you think about China. If you're Arab, maybe you think of ancient Persia. But if you're Black? Well, maybe Egyptians were Black? Otherwise, you've got nothing.

So Black people need a month more than everyone else does. Hopefully during that month, they will find something to take pride in and thus feel less of a need to tear people of other races down to make themselves feel better.

Your racism is showing, you may want to tuck it back in.

Have you ever thought that maybe, just maybe, the reason you're not aware of many accomplishments by black people is that they aren't taught in western education systems. And that - *gasp* - black history month is there to try to correct that?

What's to celebrate about Enslaving black people?
I don't know but it makes me feel a bit nauseous.

Black people have been shamed by racist scum for all of history and are still shamed today. White people have faced no such shame.

This is single handedly the dumbest thing I've ever read online and shows you have no actual clue of historical events at all.

The Roman Empire alone used to enslave Germans and Celts and see them as sub-humans due to their fairer skin. However, feel free to rewrite history to suit your own motives and underlying agenda.

Thanks! That's interesting... strange that they never talk about those Empires and Kingdoms during Black History Month.

For that matter, they should probably be covered in World History more often.
It's because black people - and this is looking especially at the US, whose race relations issues are horrendous - have often been marginalised by society and forgotten by history, even when making massive historical contributions. There's no point in having a 'black history month' in Mali or even Iceland. In the first, the vast majority of their history would be 'black history', whilst in the second there probably aren't enough black people to make a contribution apart from mainstream history. One must also highlight the fact that this sense of 'black-ness' is almost purely an American/English concept at the origin - they're not 'African' per se anymore, therefore it's using what people used to use against them - their skin colour - as an instrument for unity.

In places like the US for example, 'mainstream' history was very often 'white-only' history, therefore 'black history month', was introduced to compensate for that. Is it 'right'? That's debatable - as to a certain extent it encourages segregation. Then again, it's almost a form of positive discrimination, and it is important to remember the history of the marginalised, so that for once the 'history is written by the victors' trope can be disproved. Do you need black history month in Nigeria? Probably not, unless you're studying world history/the US. Do you need Black history month in Finland or Japan? Probably not, unless you're studying world history/the US.

In an ideal world - there would be no black history month as black history would be very visible in mainstream, school-taught history. We don't live in that world yet. I honestly hope in the nicest way possible that there will be no need for a black history month in 200 years time, as simply the idea of people's stories being forgotten due to their race will appear ludicrous. We're not quite there yet, so in the meantime, have fun with black history month and the rest of the year you can drift back to other bits of history

The number of white European slaves is only a fraction of the trade that brought 10 million to 12 million black African slaves to the Americas over a 400-year period, and in no way comparable to the slavery faced by non-white people. Why do you want to feel oppressed so badly?

While I think it would be stupid to say there hasn't been issues with race in America, I doubt that the race issues will be forgotten regardless. Don't forget, a massive civil war was fought over this as well as decades of race riots and murders. It would be like British people forgetting the ECW and the Commonwealth years.

So the blacks, according to what is taught in American classrooms, didn't play any role whatsoever in the building of Jamestown, the war of independence (where the rebels offered them freedom for fighting), or the civil war(a war fought primarily due to states rights to enable slavery), and the whole civil rights movement and struggle against Jim Crow? I find it difficult to believe that America could whitewash such significant developments.
Why are people so damn ignorant  this seems like a troll to me

The fact that they, and the many other accomplishments by black people, are not covered is the reason why many people feel we need a black history month, not the patronising crap you wrote in your original post. I was a bit baffled by your post to be honest. Then I saw that you're from Texas and it all made sense.

Why, because most History we are taught in school is white...

Maybe because we used to live in WHITE countries, and the fact blacks have achieved **** all compared to EUROPEANS, not really a surprise is it.

Where's Armenian Month then? Oh wait, that's right. Instead we just have people denying that the Armenian Genocide ever took place because it suits their narrative and deep down they don't care about people, just what suits their own agenda. Armenians and the Roma population probably have more right to such in Europe than anyone else but who cares about them, right?

Why do you want to feel oppressed so badly?

I don't feel oppressed. Jog on with your daft assertions.

It's just nonsense really. It's something done by people who wish to jump on the bandwagon in an attempt to make themselves feel important and valuable in the world. It's usually delusional liberals without any clue about the wider world and a narcissistic need to make everything about them.

We do not have Armenian Month. We do not have Roma Month. We do not have Hazara Month. We do not have German Month to discuss the persecution they have faced by being incorrectly associated with the Kaiser and Nazi regimes. You only care when it suits YOU to care.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavery_on_the_Barbary_Coast

1.25 million by barbary pirates at the same time (in non ottoman states)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dev%C5%9Firme

Potentially as many as a million Janissaries (white Christian warrior-eunuchs).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimean_Tatars#Slave_trade

Some researchers estimate that altogether up to 3 million people were captured and enslaved during the time of the Crimean Khanate.

The majority of these being eastern european white people.

We could count slaves taken by the Roman empire, The various persian empires, Greco-Macedonian empires and successor kingdoms, the successor states to the Western Roman Empire, and the millions upon millions of Serfs held by numerous feudal kingdoms up until the mid 19th century, but we would be here all day.

The north Africans have achieved stuff tbf, like the the north east springs to mind.... but central africa, and everything that's not north africa, I don't think so.

Blaming white people has done nothing to benefit Africa at all, I agree with you there. However, I think you should look at Namibia and Botswana before you write off sub saharan africa.

...but the OP asked about white history month, not German/Roma/Hazara history month. OP wants a history month for ALL white people, and ALL types white people have never been oppressed in the way ALL types of black people have. What is not getting through with you, you angry, intolerant being?
