How many universities can you apply for (postgrad)

As many as you've got the time and energy to apply for ( and your referees). There is no centralisation of admissions for postgrad degrees so no-one else is counting.
No limit! I did 3 masters applications last year and 3 PhD applications this year. If you tell your referees that you're doing a few applications and is that okay they can prepare the same letter and then when the automated emails are sent to them to submit a reference it isn't arduous for them.
