Is 83 a good mark to get for a module in the first year?

Just got my results back and my highest was 83, kind of disappointed wanted 90+ since the module is in the area I would like to specialise in third year and onwards...

First year marking is almost always more lenient, the content is easier and it might not count for your final degree grade.

Anything above 70 is already very good.

As long as you end up with a first class degree and 70+ in the necessary modules, you'll be fine.

I did get a first overall, but first year only counts for like 9% of the final degree.. I managed to get a first in 5/9 of my modules

I don't like to give too much away on TSR but it comes under Mathematical Sciences

I'm a prospective student at KCL so can you tell me a little about the school?

Where do you have your lectures? How is the teaching etc

For a mathematical subject, it is quite good. I think it depends on university, I dunno what average marks at KCL are like.

hmm but in degree level you have to be careful not all years are weighted equally so you don't want to burn out too quickly...

The only place that I can think from the top of my head that requires an average of 80+ is the Part III maths course at Cambridge. Everywhere else hasn't got as much of a strict mark threshold

I'm actually thinking of doing the part III course there, inspired by some of my phd tutors who did the same course as me then did Maths Part III at Camb.

Do they require 80% average in your overall degree? What other types of things do they look for? All advice appreciated!
