Why are singers called artists?

They don't create any art, and if you think a creative music video is art your mistaken. Most don't even write their own lyrics! They hire a lyricist! So they are not creating an art with words!

The same could be said about art. Go into any up-market high street gallery and the much of the stuff they are selling isn't art in the true sense. Just original pieces based on a template that the artist churns out one after another. They all look the same but slightly different.
