NHS is a joke

Well today after wasting year and a half I got told I can't get the treatment i need. After an appointment with a psychologist, they found that I am not insane enough so the consultant basically asked me to f off and get the treatment privately. I am aware there is better things, than gynecomastia, that NHS should be spending money on but just because I am not gonna self harm or I am not depressed or have anxiety doesn't mean I shouldn't get the treatment.

No, it just means you're not a priority, and given by the fact that they're under staffed and under funded they can't deal with you.

Also why'd you need to see a psychologist for gynecomastia instead of a GP, something you're not telling us, OP?
Should have lied tbh, if girls can get boob jobs on the NHS surely it's only fair that you can get (much more needed) surgery?*

I went to the GP then he sent me to the psychologist. It's some kind of criteria I think.

I am really pissed off. The psychologist was a great effing actor she told me that I was affected by this socially and mentally, which I am, but in the report she said it doesn't affect me. Just from the fact that I have never been swimming, it's easy to judge that this thing affects me

So if a psychologist says you don't need whatever it is you're looking for [surgery / hormone therapy, whatever] why should you or why do you think you should get it on the NHS?

Well here's the thing she asked me if i have ever self harmed because of gynecomastia or will I self harm I said no. It is really embarrasing but it doesn't mean am gonna hurt myself. I think that's why she said I don't need but. But she also said this does give me anxiety and gave me a self help booklet.
Should i get the treatment? Yes, I think I deserve it. I never stop thinking about it, I have to wear at least 3 layers to hide it even in summer, I don't go out much because of it, I get bullied in school. It's affecting me socially. I can give you 50 more reasons mate and it is really really embarrasing. You know I mean.

Oh do stop whining, evidently wht ever it is is not that serious and thus the doctors do not believe it can be addressed by them and they undoubtedly know better. Say the NHS is **** after you've been in a car wreck or need an organ transplant etc.
I think doctors are rubbish with anything got to do woth mental health stuff. But yeah I agree the NHS is generally ****, them ones when you get an appointment once you've recovered LOL.

I'm sorry to hear that, it sounds like a really unfortunate system. Sadly there are a plethora of conditions I've seen which don't get the funding for the treatments and the health economists try to use a policy of greatest good for the greatest number.

Whilst I don't want to demean you regarding the treatment, there are things you can do to help! From reading the thread it seems like bullying and social aspects are key issues. You can always consult and seek help regarding these matters! You're not alone out there and there are things that can be done to help  you're probably a fantastic individual full of potential and you just need to tap into it and give yourself that little spark to set off.

As for the idiots asking why he feels entitled. The NHS is free to the point of delivery for certain hospital care. Whilst 95% of patients can have their treatments delivered to them by experts, some cannot. Health economics play a big part and clinicians maybe overlook somethings. Having a medical degree, 9 years of post grad training doesn't make you perfect!

Have a little bit of consideration for what OP is feeling and realise that by demeaning him, you're exacerbating the issue. Whilst I can't offer OP a panacea, I can try to offer advice which hopefully some others can also do!

As much as I'm sure it must be difficult if you are uncomfortable with your body, if it isn't a threat to your mental or physical health then it just is not a top priority at all. It is expensive to guarantee free health care for everyone in this country and if we can only sustain it by making decisions like not giving you the treatment you want then so be it.

If you believe in paying more to get more then you have an option - private healthcare.
Basically GPs work within the NiCE guidlines which dictates criteria for refferal and managment of most maladies...in your case you are just not a priority due to funding limitations...is there a particular reason you developed gynacomastia? Were you on antidepressants?

gynecomastia.

So just because you have man boobs, you want the NHS to pay to remove them? If every obese/fat person with the condition had it, do you really expect them to pay for it? Where does the line end? I'm not happy with how thin my lips are, can I have fillers put in?

Get over yourself dude.

You do realise that gynaecomastia is not caused by being fat right? You can be a perfectly healthy weight and with a low body fat percentage and still have it. It's hormonal.

@OP I'm sorry that you aren't going to be covered by the NHS. I suppose all you can really do is save up and go private, it should cost around £3k give or take for the surgery. If you put your mind to it and are very frugal you could save that amount within a year or two depending on your expenses.

That isn't the case though.
Our Nhs is in the brink of calapse and all people can think of is why wont they cover me for this or that! There's no dam staff to even look after seriously ill people properly let on added extras like this. Unbelievable

To the OP. Stop whining for a moment and I'll tell you what life was like before we had the NHS. I was born in 1948, the year the NHS was born.
I spent my young years in a children's home. There were at least 300-500 children in that home at any given time, and there were many homes like this all over Britain.
Malnutrition, polio, diphtheria, measles, TB. I watched children my own age die from these diseases. The NHS came too late for them. It may not be perfect, but it's what we have.

I am not fat mate. I am 5'9 and i weigh, depending on the time of the year, about 73-79 kg with body fat percentage of about 12-15 percent body fat. and i do go the gym and do physical activities. it's just uncomfortable when you have to wear hoodies even when doing physical stuff.

No I wasn't on any medication. I don't know why I've got it but as long as I can remember I've always had it
