The world's top jobs - in the hands of women!

"
If Hillary Clinton wins the American presidential election in November, there will be women in charge of five of the leading countries and organisations in the world - the US, the UK, Germany, the IMF and the US Federal Reserve. "

Who'd have thought? :clap2:

This seems like great news (I am willing to overlook for the sake of this discussion that Theresa May is a Tory) and I wonder if we will now get even more women leaders coming through in countries that remain (in practise, if not in rhetoric) fiercely hostile to feminism such as Russia and China.

So go Hillary, go! :woo:

Let's make this the global year of women taking power! :party2:

Gender aside, I hope for America's sake Hilary doesn't win.

You are willing to overlook the fact that Theresa May's policies disagree with almost all of your own, purely because she has a vagina?

Surely we shouldn't care about their genders? Don't we want the best people for the job, regardless of their genitals?

No, but it sets a role model for young women everywhere and I applaud that.
Surely someone who cares about equality won't care about whether a world leader is a man or a woman? I don't see why people are pointing this out- if they truly believed in equality, they wouldn't be talking about someone's gender.

Why don't we make this the year of good politicians taking power, regardless of their gender and not use their gender as a credential?
And you still get remainers complaining!

Don't forget what the alternative is.
Get merkel out and get trump in
The fact that it's still a big deal, that women can be in powerful jobs, shows that we aren't quite there yet with equality. :/

Okay, fair enough (although I'd hardly call Theresa May or Hillary Clinton role models by any stretch of the imagination). By the way, despite your username, you have never particularly surprised me.

Don't take that as a call to ambush me in a dark alleyway, just voicing my disappointment.

Will try harder. :teehee:
As long as these positions are earned on merit , I couldn't care less whether they are female or male .

Oerlooking her policies would be voting for her despite the fact that you hate her policies but you vote for her anyway because she has a vagina, OP clearly wouldnt do that. It's still a nice achievement that we are living in a time when several world eaders are / about ot become women. Of course if we had a choice between a left wing male or a right wing female as PM we'd still choose the male! (im just generalizing)

That's the problem.

Would you overlook sexism in the left just because it is sexism being committed by socialists?

No. To be precise, I meant that I am still pleased that a woman is PM even though she is a Tory - I certainly don't think she's perfect.

Well I think she will be worse for women on average. There is a load of protests right now about funding being cut for sisters uncut and other such anti FGM charities.

I supposed it is a tiny tiny victory but it is utterly dwarfed by the other crap.

Role models eh
Hilary Clinton: Hey young girls, I'll show you how to
-be reckless with classified files!
-keep up with opinion polls to make sure you hold the most popular view!
-vote to protect purely your own interests!
-tell LBGT people how great a champion you are of their rights after years of being openly against gay marriage!
-pursue only power and eschew any establishment of a unique, assertive identity!

Theresa May: What's up folks. I'll show you how to
-posit criminalising everything as a solution!
-support prying into everybody's personal lives!
-promise to bring down immigration and instead have little to no impact!
-defend the place of Shariah courts in society!
-avoid standing up for your views, for political gains!

Angela Merkel; well, at least she did work as a research scientist...

I hope she turns out better than that, but yeah, I won't hold my breath about her policies - the fact that she's retaining Hunt as Health Secretary indicates that she supports the privatisation of the NHS with all the hurt that will cause.

I suppose the point is that it does nevertheless show that there are no limits for women in achieving high office.

Nothing Mr Trump has suggested would damage America, unlike Hilary.

Those radical left wing women Mayors in Spain are a better example of feminism seizing power imo.

Sure, if you count boosting hotel/casino profits as being 'helping America'.
