Anyone started revising for their A levels yet?

Why revise for something you haven't learned yet? It's pointless as you'll more than likely end up doing something completly different in those courses.

Enjoy your last summer before a lot of hard work

Let me rephrase- starting to teach myself the content & doing triple science at GCSE has made me realise that a few things interlink so just brushing up on those skills would not do any harm would it?

I've been going out a lot/will be doing a lot with friends and family I.e parties,carnivals,holiday ,festivals etc
On top of that I've got a weekend job
I've already got work experience in the area of working with people who have special needs and will be potentially obtaining some more in the medical sector.
When I mean starting to revise it will not be rigorous revision but essentially just "bridging the gap" between GCSEs & Alevels!

& how are you so imperatively sure that I will forget? what if I do a page or 2 a week but in full depth?

fair enough, all that you are saying holds great merit. however, i was just using an example. also, it has been scientifically proven that people do forget information if they do not repeat and go over it.

that work experience sounds really great, good luck with that! :smile:

I am not saying you are, but for anyone, starting in September is sufficient time to get all As

What do you want me to say? You asked us if you were being pathetic, and I said in the nicest possible way that you kinda are. I admire your motivation and determination but you'll be just fine revising during school or whatever. You may find it difficult to understand/teach yourself wrong as well, which isnt very good as you wanna learn the right information. But if you wanna revise anyway then go ahead.

If it bothers you that your social life will be effectively screwed, or that you would be less happy doing learning than going out to parties, then enjoy your summer. But equally, there are some of us who are extreme introverts who find being social draining, in which case you should use your off-days as revision/learning time.

Perhaps you could do revision more socially, by going somewhere that you can socialise and revise.

Personally, when I first began my A-levels, the gap between GCSEs and A-levels were so large that I completely flopped the first time around. It was only after having some background (even at D/E grades) and applying myself properly by reading ahead and learning materials pre-classes that I found myself able to concentrate well to achieve high grades.

Some of my friends had done GCSE additional maths, which covers some of C1, so they found Maths A-levels quite easy because they already knew half the content by the time the teaching started, so getting As weren't a challenge.

Should I take A levels instead of AS levels guys? The thing that's putting me off A levels is the 2 year time period, but what do you guys think?

Just wait until you're about half way through your first college year. You'll realise how little actually links to GCSE subjects in any A level.

Enjoy your summer. That's what a holiday is for. You'll get two years to get the best grade you possibly can in your A level. If you try to learn now with no teacher guidance, without knowing the exam board etc. you won't even remember any of it by September

A levels get you into uni. AS Don't unless it's dentistry or whatever. They will now be seen as a taster year if available

I don't have any immediate plans for University, I want to do A levels to academically boost my CV, for employment purposes, as far as work experience goes I'm a jack of all trades type of guy. Universities have become highly capitalised. My father studied English lit at Cambridge, when university was free to everyone.
