First few months of phd any tips / ideas or motivation to get started with literature review

1. Pick a subject where there is no literature to review.
2. Keep reading and making notes so that you can construct a review later, but crack on with exploring more substantive parts of your argument. The Literature review often doesn't need to be a pre-requisite to getting on with what you actually want to research.

Start with the basics for your wider topic. Go back over the core general texts and gradually zoom in on more focussed and recent journal papers which more directly relate to your research. Try to read at least two papers a day. It's not much but it builds and you speed up.

Ask your supervisor for some suggestions.

The motivation is pretty basic - if you don't do it, you don't get a PhD. Crack on.*
