It's just part of being a teenage lad. All my mates at school used to do it, all my mates out of school used to do it. Clearly, several guys in this thread used to do it. If it's a pretty common thing, what's abnormal about it?

. If you can bc of religious reasons or whatever get a hobby that will distract you from it. I watch these youtubers called Sid and dina and they're both Muslim and married now. In one of their advice videos Sid talked about how he took up basket ball to distract himself bc he couldn't have sex before marriage. Try something like that like sports, then you'll be too tired to even think about sex.

'Several' to me means at least more than three and usually more than five. When I was this age and boarding at school with 400 randy teenage boys who kept few secrets the highest number in a day was 3, and this was something that was marked out as a rare or one-off event.

It isn't part of being a teenage boy to regularly masturbate more than five or even three times a day. One study of teenage masturbation habits reported in Time that 'half [of boys] said they masturbated at least twice a week', meaning that half did not even masturbate twice a week. Look at anonymous posts online on Yahoo answers, Quora and elsewhere and you will find that the vast majority of boys in this age range report much lower levels of masturbation frequency than you think is normal:

If a 16 year old girl has such a high sex drive that she literally cannot find enough time in the day to masturbate enough to relieve it then it is clearly a problem that she should seek help for, but there's absolutely no question that it is an abnormal situation.

Studies and polls like that don't hold any real value. They rely on 100% honesty from the participants, not something you can rely on when people are being quizzed by strangers about very personal topics such as masturbation, thus making them unreliable by default.

There's some limitations with that study:

"Recruitment included adolescent participants as well as their parents or guardians. A total of 2172 parents and guardians reviewed a description of the study (including the questionnaire): 62% consented to allow their child to be invited via e-mail to participate (n = 1347), 61% of invited adolescents responded (n = 831), and 99% of responding adolescents consented to participate (n = 820) (37% overall participation rate). All study protocols were approved by the institutional review board of Indiana University."

If the parents or guardians are involved in some way, then the adolescents may not be as honest as they could be even if the parent/guardian never see the answers they give.

The study also doesn't appear to take into account religion - for example how many of those that participated are Mormon?

Also did those that took part actually understand what is meant by "masturbation":

"With inclusion of younger ages, and even the 14-year-olds in this study, attention should be given to the participants' comprehension of the word masturbation. We attempted to define masturbation (by asking “Have you stimulated your body for sexual pleasure?”), but defining masturbation involves the assumption that participants understand complex concepts such as sexual pleasure, and it is possible that some 14-year-olds and younger adolescents will not understand such concepts regardless of the definition"

Add to this there might be gender differences based on differences in how genders experience sexual pleasure:

"In addition, male and female adolescents may comprehend the same description of masturbation differently based on how they experience sexual pleasure, possibly explaining some of the gender differences seen in our data"

In addition most of the the participants were white (61.3%) - there might be differences based on race/ethnicity.

In conclusion I'm not completely convinced by the results of this study.
