Failed 2nd year.. want to transfer to local Uni..
So.. ive failed 2nd year of Sociology. In with the wrong crowd.. blah blah blah. I want to live at home and transfer to a more local uni to give it my all.. will I be able to do that? Is it worth asking, who do I talk to first? My uni have said I can retake year but I know ill be distracted. Help!
Transferring uni's will be a long and lengthy process, even if your local uni accept you. You've probably left it too late to start this academic year anyway.If you've failed second year because you couldn't focus and was 'in with the wrong crowd', ask yourself do you really want to be at uni at all?
Does your chosen degree or future career not matter as much as socialising with your friends and neglecting your studies?
I know this is sounding harsh but you managed to pass your first year, whats changed?
Going to uni is a serious commitment both in time and money. It's not school, you went to uni to study and earn a degree that will heighten your career prospects not to slack off with the wrong crowd who you admit are probably the main cause of you failing.
What I'm trying to say is, why don't you decide that this is the moment you'll change your attitude. Find a new group of friends that have a positive influence on your studies, work hard on your degree since that's what you are paying £9000+ a year for.
Also I know uni is different for everyone but it is also a major stepping stone down the path of independence. It challenges you to make your own priorities, take charge of your own life and not rely on mum and dad (or anyone who's 'home' for you). Life's only gonna get harder from now on.
If moving back home is really what you want to do, then it is up to you. But it will be a complicated process switching uni's and if your current uni are offering you to re-do, have a really good think about it because they are offering you a second chance to sort out your mistakes the first time around.
