Back in my GCSEs i was always terrible at english i had Cs in my coursework and Ds and Es in every class and mock assessment. I came out of my language in literature exams feeling terrible and thinking i'd have to resit englisg at college. In my language exam i wrote in the wrong format and in literature i misunderstood the poem. I told my english teacher what i wrote and she said i'll probably get a D in lit and language. It got 2 A*s (100℅ in lit and 92℅ in language). I was completely overwhelmed.

That's amazing!

Woah that's amazing! Good job!
Ok so I know 2 cases.

1) One of my friends had a boyfriend during her AS year and because of that, she neglected her A levels and came out with 4 Us. Naturally she had to retake the year and in that time, she became single again and worked harder than she had done before. That summer, she got AABD.

The summer after she walked out her school with A*AA and now has just finished her first year at Bristol. :h:

2) Last year, I made friends with a girl in my Maths class and she was retaking Year 12 because of severe panic attacks affecting her exams. She also came out with UUUU. I spoke to her back in Jan (I left my old school) and she's currently holding a Cambridge offer for Law.
I literally had a breakdown in the middle of my AS Economics exam and had to be taken out of the room because I'd filled in the multiple choice sheet wrong and all of my answers were in the wrong rows. After I went back in, I finished the exam and was sure that I'd done horrendously. To my great surprise I got 79 UMS, and an A overall when combined with the other unit. To my even greater surprise, my marks had been added up wrong (I got my paper back), and I ended up getting 81 UMS, so a more solid A!

Ah I'm pleased to know it worked out for you ; just shows getting obsessed with your firm choice is silly when most people end up happy no matter where they go, given it's what you make of it at the end of the day haha

Hmm yeh true there's nothing stopping you from doing more courses but how will you fund the second degree ?
I knew a guy who was an average joe in his GCSEs. He spent most of his time playing football and hanging out with his mates, than his head in the books. When his mum passed away before the start of his year 12 :bawling: , he decided to do what his mum always told him what he was good at. He did 5 A-levels: Maths, Further Maths, Additional Further maths, Physics and Economics. His results was: A*A*A*A*A

Wow that's really impressive !
I know someone at my school who lived in a very poor area of my town and in year 9 they asked one of their teachers what they had to do to be successful and they told them that you need to work really hard to get into a really good uni. Their GCSE grades were pretty poor such as a D in physics however at A-level they worked their ass off and got an offer from imperial with 4A*'s yet they were't satisfied with this and so they applied to Cambridge during a gap year and now they're studying there

For my Highers in 2013, I was absolutely, positively, completely certain I had failed my maths exam, I would have honestly put money on it lol but I ended up getting a b and being recommend for advanced higher

Ah that's great to hear mate
When I did my GCSEs, I had 2 subjects that I was realllllly bad at and bloody hated; History and English Lit. I was predicted B's in both of them but in reality, during Year 10 and Year 11 I had never passed and never got above a C in any test/mock thing. In English the week before the exam I even got a U in an essay :afraid:

Turns out on results day they were my highest grades and got A* in both, with full marks in quite a few of the exams. Anything could happen, even if you think you've done badly - it might not be the case!

Just over a week ago, you guys may remember a thread called 'Results day horror stories'. A few of you were saying that we were insensitive considering that results were right round the corner :colone:

So we will try something different as we approach results day - have you got any stories about when you thought that you weren't going to do well with results but you did? Have you got any stories about results that ended happily? Do you feel you've done well for your impending results?

My example: Back in the day when I did my GCSEs, I had no idea how I was going to do. When I went and picked up my results, I decided to go down an alleyway incase I was going to have breakdown over it - luckily I did well and got into college  I remember shouting 'Yes!' out loud  quite cringey thinking back to it

You know the drill guys - let's have some positive vibes :h:

(Inspiring is a bit misleading :colondollar: It can be anything that is happy!)

Way back inth olden times (i.e: circa 2010) I was a hormone and acne riddled 16 year old fussing about failing her maths GCSE. You see, it was important that I got a C minimum on it because I needed that to do Biology and Chemistry a-level. Anyway, my school (a bad comprehensive in one of the most deprived areas in my hometown) had decided I wasn't capable of getting anything above a C and had stuck me in set 2. But I wanted to do Physics at A-Level and that required a B. I knew I could do it but I wasn't going to let any old crotchety old men tell me what I could and couldn't achieve at maths! First they laughed, then they protested, then with insistence, they gave in. I went to extra maths lessons in my lunch breaks when I wasn't doing prefect duty and practised on the computer in my spare periods. I walked into the maths exam crapping myself, sat down and nervously resigned myself to 'whatever will be will be'

Fast forward to GCSE results day, hands shaking, I opened my results envelope. One A*, four A's, five B's and one E. The E was in Art but I had achieved my target grade for maths and superseded the schools expectation for me. The same October I got two awards from the high school, a science prize and a prize for mathematical endeavour

TL;DR: My school only thought I could get a C but I got a B and scooped two awards into the bargain

That was a great read :h: Well done for proving them wrong - goes to show they don't know everything :colone:

On a bit of a side note - I didn't really like Art and I spent years telling my teacher that I was looking forward to dropping it when the time came. Then the school told me that I couldn't drop it because it would clash with my schedule :colonhash:

Of course, the teacher had a good laugh at me for quite a while, but somehow I managed to come out with a C, despite my hatred toward it, as well my teacher thinking I was going to get a D for it! :u:
