Well I am only two of those things at most. But personally I am more able to express myself through text, and find it rather engaging and perhaps sometimes therapeutic to do so. It is often a platform where I can say what I really think, with many threads on many different topics. It is a way to pass the time and I enjoy the weird style of community. Firstly I got into it because of, as you'd imagine, studies, A level in particular, and have had great help on here and enjoyed being of help to many people as well. That is another aspect; during exam season it is nice to feel useful and helpful lol.

I'm quite an extroverted person in real life. I joined to discuss GCSEs and academics and what not. My friends in real life are disinterested in this so it was a useful platform for me to use

yeah the same reason i joined, i was smarter than all my friends and the people who were smarter than me were like unpopular and nerds, so i didnt really talk to them, so thats how i came across tsr while revising

TSR for the majority is a way to share experiences, get help and advice on study, applying to uni and all the things that come about with being a young adult such as relationships, health and general wellbeing. Considering most of us are in some form of education it is easy to see why most people use this site.

Your first comment is just not true at all, most people using TSR have friends, not all are introverted (and there is nothing at all wrong with that anyway). Being nerdy is nothing to be ashamed of, I see it more as a strive to want to achieve. and as for your later comment, its up to the person what they do in their personal life and there is nothing at all to be ashamed about being a virgin!

I make an effort to speak to everyone because the "nerds" are the ones who will be able to help out with coursework, homework etc. Though i am seen as the "nerd" amongst my friends :smile:

Fair enough. It's probably because between y7-9 I didn't care about school but still stuck with the same friends y10-11.

I like TSR though. It's interesting.

Or writing, whatever. Non-verbal is the point. In everyday conversation I find myself never quite getting to the point I want to get to, or not quite being able to get people to understand what I mean, as I don't have time to choose my words more carefully and usually something weird, inane, or technically slightly different to what I'm really thinking comes out. I dunno, I sort of think I have some degree of Asperger's, but at the same time I'm excellent at those "reading the mind in the eyes" things and I can certainly see things from other people's point of view and understand things on an emotional and empathetic level, so idk.

Technology did not make me like this though lol; I have always been a very good essay writer for instance, but teachers got much less intelligent (or at least, intelligent sounding) responses when they asked me verbal questions... I suppose TSR is very suited for anyone with these sorts of traits. In general I never really have anything particularly offensive to say, or I frame things in a way to avoid conflict, and this comes naturally to me, as I am somewhat uncomfortable being combative. So I haven't found TSR's ban hammer to be a problem yet in spite of the meat of what I have said being often quite divergent from the standard narratives and potentially very offensive if handled with less...tact, I suppose. I somewhat admire those who do not feel the need to be tactful or deferential and are confident in what they think but I do.
