Why do people have a problem with wolf whistling

Just as bad, or I think sometimes worse than wolf whistling, is guys leaning out of van/car/truck windows and making leering remarks, shouting them across the street, etc. This is amazingly common and very bloody annoying.

No I am not a mod, but I still have the right to guide and advise certain members of tsr about their use of wording and phrases.
I am just simply providing a normal discussion.

No, actually, you don't have the right to guide or advise anyone here about their use of language and phrases.
However, you have, in the past, have used inappropriate wording in your threads/posts and that is what they were removed.

It's unsolicited sexual behaviour in a public place, so even if it isn't criminal, it probably should be.

I do not condone sexual harassment, but i am also against a policed state.
i take it as a compliment although i get beeped (if there in a car) rather then wolf whistled

when there's several dozen replies saying it's not okay and detailing why it isn't okay and the OP is just like nAH FAM ITS FINE every single time
I'm personally against it - as a guy (who obviously doesn't get wolf whistled lol) I find it degrading to women and inappropriate. If I were a woman, I would not find it very nice if some d**khead with all his stupid cronies decided to whistle at me like some kind of animal, degrading me and drawing all attention to me - I'd tell them to **** off, along with other niceties.

But I do understand as I have replied with a sympathetic post, but I also have to back my original point, as if a reasonable young a young guy were to whistle at young woman, it is not as bad as if a group of builders were to ogle a woman on her own.
The problem is people just want to equate the extremes that cannot apply to everyone.

Except you cnat get in your head is that its the person who is being wolf whislted at that is importnat. Numerous people on this thread have said they would not like it, but still you cant see it being a problem. This is why you are either incredibly dense or just a troll. You did exactly the same on your thread about poor people and have already asknowledged why you get the same reaction on your previous threads.

sorry, i made the comment based on a reading just a few pages on this thread. But to you original post - If a young guy were to whistle instead of a group of perverts it's still not taken as a compliment. one individual is always no matter the situation, a lot less intimidating than that individual being in a group, because people in a group, boys and girls tend to be a lot braver and act a lot riskier.

Cat calling tends to be accompanied by a very blatant check out of one's boobs and ass, and even if it isn't, it's automatically assumed anyway. it can make one uncomfortable. If a young man would want to compliment a woman they can use words instead of whistling, it'll be 100% more appreciated. Wait sec lol:

It's rude and ignorant, and you know it, Blue Mason. This is just another one of your wind up threads.

This is very true :yep:

Guys on here who simply don't understand why people have a problem with wolf whistling, well maybe you should imagine a scenario where your boss or university professor caught you wolf whistling at a stranger? How would you feel? And why?

You'd most likely feel embarrassed, and even a little ashamed of yourself. Because you know that wolf whistling goes against a number of social norms, it is inappropriate and considered sleazy. No self respecting man would ever wolf whistle at a stranger. Similarly, imagine if you caught your boss or university professor wolf whistling, you'd most likely lose a little respect for them.

Why is it that so many of you need to be explicitly taught such social norms? It's meant to be something you implicitly learn through socialisation, it doesn't normally require a verbal explanation. Maybe your social environment was somehow lacking, or you lack the cognitive ability to grasp such norms.

Or most likely you'd never dream of wolf whistling at a woman in real life. But behind the safety of your laptops and phones, you put on some bravado, and pretend that there's nothing wrong with it, when in reality when you are faced with the opportunity to wolf whistle you'd never dream of doing it.

For starters I would not wolf whistle, i were in the workplace, and even If i were to be caught I would simply apologize and move on.
Interesting that you say that, but I never said anything about whistling at a random stranger on the street.
If I was in the a social setting, and I broke the social barriers I would wolf whistle.
Social norms can sometimes be seen as a fallacy when each generation have introduced a wave of social norms that would be considered self destructive and narcissistic.
No self respecting woman would wear next to nothing and see that as female empowerment
Again I have wolf whistled at women who have seen it as harmless banter.
Again, it isn't for you to tell women what they can and cannot wear. A woman can dress how she pleases to suit herself and no one else. You are making an assumption you have no right to make.

I am not trying to police in how certain women dresss, as most women know how to dress respectively, but please understand my point.
It is easy to belive in what youre saying but an example of truth is that I cannot walk through certain parts of london with my valuables on me.
With reason being I could attract unwanted attention, hence in why people cannot dress certain way in public

1. The first sentence doesn't make a lot of sense.
2. The social norm against wolf whistling is still pretty strong.
3. Women don't wear next to nothing for female empowerment. They simply wear next to nothing because they want to, unbelievable as that may be for you.
4. Who have you wolf whistled at, strangers or friends/ acquaintances? That is important.
