Universities to study BA Hons Illustration?

I'm looking into an illustration degree but I don't know which university to apply to. I've looked at all of the London options and options down south eg Camberwell, Falmouth, Brighton, Plumouth but since I live in the north east these options just seem unrealistic and too far away and too expensive. Options closer to me are Lincoln and Loughborough. (Live near Newcastle)
I just want to know from anyone that has studied an illustration degree what it included, if you enjoyed it and what you hope to or are doing after university. Also if there are anymore good universities that study illustration. Thanks

Don't forget specialist art colleges - http://www.leeds-art.ac.uk/study/undergraduate-programmes/ba-(hons)-illustration/ and http://hartlepool.ccad.ac.uk/ILLUSTRATION-FOR-COMMERCIAL-APPLICATION/ would be worth a look. Or look further north: http://www.eca.ed.ac.uk/school-of-design/undergraduate/illustration-ba-hons
Norwich is a bit further away but not as far as London: http://www.nua.ac.uk/baillustration/

Leeds Beckett have a very good creative environment but I don't think they offer illustration

Have a look through http://university.which.co.uk/search/course?utf8=%E2%9C%93&c%5Bq%5D=illustration&c%5Bacademic_years__and__some%5D=2017&c%5Bsort_fact%5D=relevance&button= - it might throw up some suggestions you haven't considered yet. Pay attention to the % of applicants getting offers though - there is some BIG variation. Art courses will be using your portfolio to decide whether to make an offer or not (and at most you will be competing against applicants who have an Art & Design Foundation ) and for some universities/colleges your chances of an offer are very low so make sure you use your 5 choices on UCAS well to avoid 5 rejections.

Edinburgh and Glasgow are world class art schools and pretty accessible from Newcastle.

GSA don't offer an Illustration degree (although it is offered as a pathway on http://www.gsa.ac.uk/study/undergraduate-degrees/communication-design/ - only 12% of applicants get an offer though)

The Edinburgh Illustration course is great (and a bit less competitive than GSA but they still reject over 5/6 applicants so a riskier choice).

TBH I only added Glasgow to be balanced - otherwise my prejudice in favour of ECA is too marked! It'll have a course that ticks similar boxes. Yes, the ECA illustration course is fabulous. The degree show is always stunning. OP asked for good places, and good places aren't easy to get into, of course.
