Just clocked, what are you gunna do for freshers, fake ID?

Posted from TSR Mobile

Fake ID won't work. They have pictures of the students who are underaged at pubs.

To be honest, I am thinking of just studying during fresher's week. I've decided to not have a social life after I am in Cambridge, and just do maths 24/7.

They are easy and boring. QED

Consequently, Cambridge is also boring. Since these questions are more common for Cambridge interviews!

Cocky people detected.
Exterminate.

Jesus, could get some of the lads to sneak some ciders to you for a revision break

Anyone else have an idea what they will do if they miss their Cambridge offer on 18th August? I am lost. No idea what I would do if that were to happen. Definitely not taking my insurance choice though (Warwick), gonna re-apply to Cambridge but no idea what I would do all year (continue self-studying part IA for sure).

To be fair you have, theoretically, 2 years (?) before normal university age so you have that advantage behind you should you need to reapply (which I would do if I were you).
Personally, I would take my insurance (also Warwick) because I have accepted the fact that should I get 2A*s and 2As (my offer is basically 3A*s 1A) I highly doubt I would be fished out of a potential summer pool. I would take the 4 year integrated masters course too and then if I wanted to do a PhD perhaps reapply to Cambridge.

Haha, I guess that would be cool.

I gotta make sure I study as hard as I can though since, as you probably know, I am planning on becoming a theoretical physicist in the future so if I am not good enough I am doomed for life.

If Cambridge was boring the offer holders thread wouldn't be on Mk II ;D

Yeah I agree with this, he can always apply again (and again)

I'm thinking of the PhD at Cambridge but I don't think I'd do it soon after I graduate, I'd like to take on a graduate job first. I'll see how things go I guess

Yeah, I am 100% set on re-applying to Cambridge since I love the course and it is the best that could be offered for someone wanting to specialise in theoretical physics. However, the problem is that I need to find out what I would be doing (except self-studying part IA) for one whole year, if I missed my offer. Also, I have no idea how it works for me, is it considered a gap year (@jneill might answer this) if I don't get accepted in Year 11 and technically in Year 12? If it is considered so, I know that Cambridge hates Maths gap year students and puts insane STEP offers like SS on them, so will I get such offer (assuming I do) after I re-apply? In addition, will I need to be in sixth form or is this not a requirement? I have no idea, to be honest. If the unfortunate does happen, I would need to talk to some people and see what opportunities I would get. I remember one of my good teachers (who I just heard has come to work in Cambridge this September) recommended me to not do any more A-levels, and just consolidate my understanding of what I currently know, also do some competition maths. He also recommended me to apply to some kind of Maths school that King's College London does, idk about what that is.

I don't know m8, I will be so lost if I get rejected on 18th August.

Getting too stressed about results day now!!!

Cry for the next year

Not sure if I'd take my insurance (also Warwich)

Yes! The Principal of my school contacted the admissions officer of Cambridge (I think it wasn't of Churchill college, but of the whole uni since they spoke of the uni as a whole and not just the college), and they said that they often get students who are not 18 when they come to Cambridge, so the pubs have photographs of them at the back of the bar where the bartender or whatever can look and see if they are underaged or not. Lol.

Me neither. Better no uni than Oxford.

I am gonna cry, there's no question in that. Probably gonna have a sip of some bleach too.

@Mathemagicien, I presume your insurance is straight Maths for Warwick?

My insurance is Maths with Physics. Are you also joint Maths and Physics, or just straight Physics?

I shall stay neutral on this topic as I may apply for Oxford if I miss my Camb offer by an A*

Because I mis-spelled Warwick and felt ashamed.

And its to see who notices

Fake ID's won't work, but the last point about pictures is disputable. If you look old enough, you generally get served in pubs without ID.

But don't be that guy who studies in freshers, besides, freshers is only like a couple days in Cambridge so enjoy it whilst you can.

Definitely! Need to pay off some of that student loan 😢

I'm not certain about Maths offers, but i wouldn't put Cambridge past doing crazy offers! If you take a "gap year" studying is very handy and probably your best option for such an academic degree, but you could always try and get a job as well on the side if possible? Just even volunteering at a charity shop, doing a part time job or carrying out any mundane tasks can be really conducive to studying and self-teaching, helping to split up the time. I'm sure at your age as well they would still be likely to give you an offer anyway, provided your gap year was spent doing something very relevant. Anyway, this is all theoretical at the moment - I am sure it won't come to this but remember you are at a huge advantage compared to us oldies  Results day is so stressful but hopefully for all of us it will prove to be a happy day!
