Is Trump mentally ill? The US Republican Party is being urged to get him examined

The Republican National Committee has full power to replace a dead, incapacitated or resigned candidate and they choose the method of selection.

However, each state decides who is on the ballot. Ohio's nomination date, for example, is 10 August. There is the possibility that Trump's name might be on the ballot paper to select a slate of electors who in fact will vote in the Electoral College for, say, Ryan rather than Trump.

Would Hillary and the Democrats agree to emergency legislation tidying up the ballot paper in each state? Shambolic Republican ballot paper entries would work to her advantage.

Yes, I know they can choose the method, I was speculating that they might elect to do this via, for example, a vote of Republican Senators and Congresspeople.

As you say, I would imagine the Dems would opt for whatever they can do to maximise Republican chaos.

I'm starting to think this may be a thing, scanning the US media sites this morning, 'Dump Trump' seems to have the mo in many Republican circles. They would just face the teensy tiny problem of declaring their own electoral system for presidential candidates to be null and void and utterly useless. :teehee:

US Congresswoman Karen Bass has started a petition calling on psychologists and psychiatrists to urge the Republican Party to get Donald Trump's mental health examined. It seems there is ample evidence that he suffers from both narcissistic and sociopathic personality disorders.

The thing is, personality disorders are not a mental illness. A lot of people are sociopaths or narcissists, and excel in the business world and in other areas (I know a couple of brilliant trauma surgeons who make me wonder...).

Trump is unfit to be president because from what he has shown so far he is not intelligent, he does not get nuances, he has no understanding (or any inclination to gain any in depth understanding) of key policy and political issues, and he has a huge ego that makes him vulnerable to people who flatter him, even if those people are Vladimir Putin or David Duke. He is just a clueless person with no interest or ability to learn.

They're a private political party. They can pretty much do what they want. Actually, it's only recently that states (the people) have voted in primaries for the candidates of the party. Usually the delegates picked the nominee at the convention.

The whole delegate and electoral college system is broken as a whole and should be scrapped. Any system that allows someone with only 22% of the popular vote to win over someone with 78% is the pinnacle of an undemocratic system.

Being a megalomaniac doesn't make a person mentally ill.But Trump dangerously shares a few common similarities with Hitler.Same glaring evil eyes and huge amounts of charisma which people are bewitched under. Hitler victimised millions of innocent Jewish lives and Trump is trying to portray innocent Muslims as the enemy and attempting to spread islamophobia throughout the USA.History does repeat itself

6 million Jewish people were inhumanely tortured to death by the end of WW2, 6 million!!!!The holocaust remains is of the most deadliest genocide in world history.Hitler only rose to power in 1933, why are you comparing data before that time? The Muslim extremists exploit some of the principles of the Islamic faith. The true Muslim community should not be punished for that.
He's not mentally ill, he's just playing the system. He knows he will gain popularity amongst certain groups by saying what he does, so he continues to act in that way. Whether or not he had the original intention of allowing an easy Democrat victory (which has been theorised by some) is harder to discern, but contrary to what a lot of people believe he does know how to campaign well.

The main problem is that he has very few experts around him. Since he is a narcissist megalomaniac, he doesn't see the point to listen to others; he was surrounded by yes-men during his career and can't bear contradiction. Moreover, nobody wants to associate their name with him. Therefore he has to do everything by himself and thus says even stupider things, like in a vicious circle. As he has probably not opened a book or read academic papers since university, he cannot get the relevant knowledge on his own.

They're a private political party who invited millions into the process of selecting their bizarre candidate. The problem isn't the legalities, it's how it will play with their base voters.

I agree about their structures, the electoral colleges were supposed to be about emphasising states' rights, but as with so many 'democratic' institutions in the US, have degenerated into a farce.

What is Islamophobia?

There is an excellent piece by Keith Olbermann in Vanity Fair. He applies the the Hare Psychopathy Checklist that was introduced by criminal psychologist Robert Hare in 1980. There are 20 items, and a person can score between 0 and 2 on each. The accepted minimum score for possible psychopathy is 30. Trump scores 32.

If anyone is going to argue that raising questions over Trump's mental health is somehow unethical, please remember that he is running for an office that will allow him to have his finger on the button controlling strategic nuclear weapons. Please also bear in mind that he has routinely called his opponents mentally ill or questioned their sanity (Barack Obama, Ted Cruz, Lindsey Graham, Glenn Beck, Ben Carson, Megyn Kelly).

That's how literally nothing works. There's not just this big red button in the Oval Office that says 'Nuke China'.

Yes, I understand that these Muslim jihadists are disgusting and foul beings who have taken so many lives and we must stand against these villains. But people need to understand that these people are of a small cohort who have infected this innocent Muslim community. What must be done by governments is to discuss and to find a solution to segregate the Muslim Jihadists from the Muslim people. The Muslim people should not be victimized for this and but they should cooperate with us to destroy the likes of ISIS.

What is Islamophobia?

‘a shorthand way of referring to fear or dislike of all or most Muslims—and, therefore, dread or hatred of Islam.’

To attempt to compare what is going on now with Muslims with the treatment of the Jews during Hitler's time is completely unhinged. You should be ashamed of yourself*
