Would you say my plans are ok, or odd?

Since I never want to be pregnant, but would like to raise a child, I'm thinking of adopting later in life say when I'm in my 40's. I'm not that far off 30 now. This way I can work on myself, career, hobbies etc without the pressure of fertility. My 20's were wasted really I didn't socialise, was anxious and studied for something which I don't want to do. So now I'm going to have to spend another several years studying again. I would also like to spend my 30's doing this and some travelling. I've also applied for the navy. People think I'm quite odd though and I'm wondering will this plan make me seem more odd :/.

Not at all, in fact I respect you for these plans you're making in the future despite the past. I especially have respect for you that you want to adopt a child in later life. My mum is in her mid thirties has just started a masters degree with her youngest child 3 and is adopting my cousin. I think these plans are wonderful and don't listen to people who think they're weird just because it's unconventional.

how long do you think you will live for?
ok forget that but most kids don't want their parent to look like their grandparent and you will be in your 60s when your child is in their 20s.
why not have the kid and study when they are at nursery/school and then go travelling with them when they are older?

I don't know, the average life expectancy is past 80 so 40 is not even mid way through life. By the time a person is in their 20's they are not a kid anymore it's no hardship having a parent who is in their 60's.
