That's kinda the whole point. Same at my mosque..mainly men. It's men who are required to go to the Mosque. Women can come too if they want (but it's not required), but they tend not too..there's a separate section for them.

Might be because women don't know about the women section yet since it opened new. The mosques that have them do get a lot esp during Ramadan.

when kids go to mosque the girls are usually in the women's department but women also use this area at funerals and taraweeh prayer (ramadan special prayer)

The women's section could be for a time when unexpectedly a lot of women come. Or it could be when it is busy during Ramadan..in my local Mosque...the women section is used frequently in Ramadan during the optional night prayers (Taraweeh). The section can also be used to host small events there.

that's interesting because when I've been researching islam there seems to have been many women praying there too at friday prayers etc yet when I went I felt a bit lonely :/ lol

Hahah it depends. like when its the holidays, there are more women. I mean like easter or other 2 weeks holiday, in the summer when its hot and 30 degrees nah they wont go!

Well..not necessarily. I've observed in my Mosque that it's usually more busy during Ramadan than any other time.
