Do insurers know if your insurance has ever been cancelled?

For example say someone's insurance got cancelled and following year they look for insurance elsewhere and say there insurance never been cancelled. Would insurers know you were lying and would you be able to get away with this.
I wouldn't want to try it out, lets put it that way.
Insures share a common database
Highly doubt that they'd get away with it. And it didn't get flagged up, if they then did an insurance claim, with insurance companies trying to find any reason not to pay out, they'd probably uncover it then!

I agree.
Insurance companies can and do find things out. They are good at it. And if they find out- expect you insurance to be cancelled again. They also refuse to pay out in the event of a claim. And that's just for starters.
