Should the police bother investigating such a thing?

It's true, the story is true. At the same time it's only a subset of middle class White women who genuinely think such things are real issues.
From reading it this appears to be more about persistent harassment/threats. It is highly unlikely that the cops are going to be running round arresting people or talking to them just because they ask a woman on a date (which is perfectly fine) & she reports them

The danger is that they will issue FPN's for doing that and that nobody will have the balls to challenge them in a court for fear of a 4 figure fine/criminal record for sexual harassment.

Perhaps there's a risk of that, that's not gonna stop me though (so far it only appears to be in Nottingham too)

Big cities are the worst because you will get the plods on foot patrol who have some level of discretion as to who they fine, which leads to potential for bias, prejudice and discrimination.

I would build a refugee housing centre right in the middle of every White middle class suburb (once I've figured out how to stop it happening in my middle class suburb :colonhash:)
