BTEC Distinction* substitute for A*?

If you have an offer of, say, A*AA, and you get a Distinction* in a Subsidiary Diploma and AAA in 3 A-level subjects, will you have met your offer?

Depends what university it is, if they accept that Btec then I think you would.
BTEC D* is about the same as a B at A2 for most universities that accept BTEC, so I'm going to say it's unlikely.

Is this really true? It's worth the same UCAS points as an A*.

Most universities don't make offers using UCAS points, I assumed by an offer of A*AA that you would be looking to attend a top university, and those almost definitely don't accept BTEC or UCAS points.

Nope it's not true, as a BTEC D* is equivalent to an A*

They don't use UCAS tariff thresholds, but they do accept BTEC qualifications.

You won't have made your offer unless the offer conditions specify that a BTEC can be substituted for A levels.

If you get an offer BBB and you get A*A*C, you haven't made your offer.

Whether they will accept you is a different matter.

Only way to get a definitive answer is by emailing the university in question!

Try applying to Cambridge with 4 D*'s.
They're only equivalent in terms of UCAS points. Which begin to mean nothing if you're applying to any course with grade requirements above BBC. You hardly see courses with higher grades advertising their requirements with ucas points. They're used because saying "240 ucas points to get in" sounds way more prestigious than "lads you only need CCC". Simply saying "they're equivalent" is misleading

never said anything about accepting or not. I said saying D*= A* Is misleading. They're equivalent in terms of ucas points which means very little if you're going anywhere decent. They'd care about your subjects + the grades you got in them.

What a load of bulls***

Pearson BTEC Subsidiary Diploma (QCF): D* 56 points
A-Level Maths: A* : 56 points

It is the
s a m e.
But not all universities accept BTEC, majority do.

The OP isn't talking about applying with just BTECs - they're talking about having AAAD* for an A*AA offer.

This response is the only one on this thread that is correct:

A near miss applicant with an additional qualification at a high level will be at or near the top of the list of near misses (unless that qualification is completely irrelevant)
No - two different qualifications.

Are you lost? Btec can't even substitute SATs

Oxford accept them

Cambridge don't (but don't mind if they're taken as a 4th subject)

No it's not? That's complete BS, a BTEC D* is equivalent to an A* in A-level. All the universities who accept BTEC accept it as a A* not a B.

Oxford
A D grade (distinction) in a BTEC National would be considered equivalent to an A at A-level, and a D* in a BTEC National would be considered equivalent to an A* at A-level.
