Staying home for Uni? Best way to go about it?

I have searched through a lot of threads where people have been asking whether or not they stay at home or halls for Uni however very few, if any, actually explained the best way to go about staying at home for Uni. I am starting university this year and my first choice university was my local uni (literally 20 minute walk from home to campus). A lot of people say that you miss out due to nights out and transport home but im used to getting to the city centre and back for nights out anyway! I would just like to know the best ways you can socialise and meet new people whilst staying at home? Any tips welcome

I've just answered a similar threat to this and the bottom line is, it's all about the effort. If you are willing to put in the effort to travel to campus, meet up with people and be around and about then you'll be fine.

There isn't really a 'set way to go about it'. You can have the same experience as people living in halls really - apart from you won't always be there instantly for any action or spark of the moment decisions.

I'd say arrange to meet up with people as usual, go on nights out, arrange study times with people and just enjoy the time at university!

Thank you for your reply :-) I have all the intentions to travel to the campus and participate in Union events such as BBQs and themed evenings, I think my main concern is going alone. I know a lot of people would be quite happy to turn up to a bbq on their own and chat to every body there but I just have this feeling that everybody is going to already have their own friendship groups like they did at sixth form haha. Thanks again for your reply.

No problem at all :smile: that is good to hear, I understand that fear. It depends at university, some people do make their friendship groups fast and are quite willing to talk to people and what not despite all that and then there is those with friendship groups who don't like too but university is all about the experience! :smile:
