How competitive is hospital pharmacy

Hi everyone,
I've seen lots of people saying how competitive hospital pharmacy is. Basically I'm wondering how competitive it actually is. Does anyone have a rough applicants:tongue:laces figure for an average hospital? Is hospital summer experience essential in application? If not what else do they look for in applications? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks :smile:

There are approx 680 hospital preregistration posts in total & there are about 3000 pharmacy graduates a year so it's pretty competitive.
Different hospitals have different applicants: place ratios. Bigger hospitals particularly the ones in London get more applicants however they also offer more places (5/6 places) whereas smaller hospitals may offer 1 or 2 places.
One of the big hospitals in London received over 300 applications for its 3rd yr summer vacation placements.
Not sure if experience is essential but I'd guess so. I'd love to know what they're looking for!.

Hey, thanks for your reply :smile: I'm just about to go into my third year, you? I have no hospital experience yet so I was hoping to get some next summer if it isn't too late. I won't be applying for any London hospitals anyway thankfully!

Mee too!
You'll be able to get some next summer. A lot of hospitals if not most offer placements to just 3rd year students. I received so many rejections this year (2nd yr) and they told me to apply when I get to 3rd year. Same! There is soo much competition & I hear their interview process for pre-reg is insane.
