University Asking grades

Hi

Can someone please explain to me why universities ask for such high grades but then accept people with really low grades. I know people who got accepted with ACD into Brunel which asks for AAB someone with CCCE who also got in there and someone in sussex with DDDE? Why ask for such high grades if your going to accept people so much lower... I do not understand. Also the people who get AAB why do they decide to go such institutes? If I got AAB I wouldn't want to study with people who got the grades above
Because students start to think it is a good university just because they are asking for high grades, they do it to attract more applicants. And then, when the students miss the grades they let them in anyway because they need to fill up their courses. Also, so that people put them as their firm choice, because obviously you will be more likely to put the uni asking for higher grades as your firm.
You will get it if you watch the video.

Probably because Unis want to appear as though they have high standards. They're not going to openly say they will accept students with low grades as this would make them look... less prestigious. Plus they may want to attract students who will achieve those grades to gain some rep. In the same way REALLY low ranked Unis won't say they will accept CDD but will say '200 UCAS points needed'
Yes, I do think it's stupid. And very misleading. But unfortunately there isn't much that can be done about it by UCAS and the govt.

And yes, it is ridiculous and needs root and branch reform.
cos they like making students stressed before they accept them anyway when they miss their grades
