The Student Room Group

Really don't know what I want to do job wise?

Originally wanted to be a doctor but my GCSE results have sort of changed that. So now I really don't know what to do, I've always had three routes which I've thought about taking: medicine, teaching or television.

I'm doing Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Psychology at A-Level.

I'd love to write for television shows but the pay is awful so I wouldn't do it as a full-time job. I've thought about, after finishing A-Levels, taking a gap year and applying for the BBC Writer's Room Shadow Scheme to learn to write for Casualty. If I went into TV, I'd love to become a producer/director on top of writing.

If I went into teaching I'd teach at a secondary school, teaching Science (specialising in Biology and Chemistry at GCSE and maybe A-level).

If I stayed in the medicine route, I'd probably go for a paramedic role, and try and work my way up to a consultant paramedic.

What are your opinions on this? I'm very passionate about all three, so it's not so much a case of which I'm most passionate about. I'd also enjoy whatever job I went in to. I could always become a paramedic and write for Casualty alongside, although that sounds like a lot of work... (It can be done though, Holby City had a writer back in 2007 who was a doctor and wrote for the show alongside his everyday career.)
If I was you id focus on doing well in your A-levels for now and see how you fee in a years time. However if you think you might wanna do medicine then get some work experience sorted just in case. Btw what did you get in your GCSE's?

Sorry this is so late:
English Literature - B
English Language - B
Maths - B (maybe A, getting remarked)
Further Maths - B
Biology - A
Chemistry - A
Physics - B
World Studies - A*
Drama - A
German - C
Geography - B
BTEC Sport - Distinction

Yeah that's what I'm planning to do - knuckle down and work hard for my A-Levels.

Sorry this is so late - but my teachers have all said they predict I'll get As maybe A*s - they're always pretty confident with me, they know I work hard, but with my GCSEs it was because I put myself user too much pressure and in the end was advised strongly by my teachers and head of year to stop revising. But they're much more confident about my A-Level results overall.

Your GCSE's wold be weak for a medicine application. However that's just means that if you want to do med then you need to sand out in other areas such the UKCAT/BMAT, your A levels and personals statement.
