Best advice for Maths GCSE retake with A-Levels?

I am going to be retaking my Maths GCSE with three AS Levels (since those A Levels don't include anything mathematical based) and does anyone have really good advice or tips - even revision methods, to excel with two types of qualifications (and I suck at math).

Past papers are the only way to go with Maths re-sits. Do every paper you can get your hands on and then go carefully through the mark schemes, highlighting areas you need to improve. Take this list to your teacher and they will give you specific help. Don't waste time going over things you already know, just focus on that list.

It sucks because the upcoming year for Maths GCSE will have three papers - one non calculator and two calculators I believe? So it is the first of its kind but I know the content is the same - it's all math of course that doesn't change. I hope the question styles aren't annoying. Thanks for answering!

Had a C this year in GCSE. Retook while doing A2s, and got an A in maths GCSE + A*AAA at A Level. Advice? Time management and efficient revision. Making sure you understand every topic, constant revision throughout the year. Leave guilt-free socialising until university acceptance

I was thinking the same. It's most likely I won't be doing it in Nov anyway. Most people in Nov seem to do it if they were probably like a borderline C previously / or just revised early.

Wow, that's pretty amazing. My situation is quite different. I already did a yr of AS and didn't pass my maths this year and I failed one AS out of 3 so couldn't be let back in for A2 year. Now I'm looking into home schooling (bc sixth forms want GCSE maths for A-Levels courses) It sucks. But this is motivational and useful so thank you :h:

I did the same thing you're doing last year I got a D again, that's because I focused too much on my AS exams and ignored maths don't be like me ahahah I got good AS grades but another D in maths :frown:

Ah well at least you have good AS' plus continuing onto A2 if I'm correct? I know doing it in A2 is less preferred though. Good luck !!

There's time if you start working now and I'd definitely recommend it if you have AS exams next Summer. If you're doing new linear A levels and your school isn't entering you for AS then it's less important to get it done earlier.

In that case I'd make a big effort to do it in November - if you get the grade you need it will take a bit of the stress off next Summer.

I hope you can manage it, good luck!! I would've been starting A2 tomorrow :frown:

Please do ask for help like your form tutor or someone experienced in planning/time keeping and timetable planning too and if there's a counselor or someone to talk to if you are feeling stressed as A2 is an important yr as well as gaining this Maths GCSE. Like the other person said, hopefully you can get the grade in November :smile:

Also worth mentioning that if you sit it in November it is the old specs so same two papers - non calc and calc. My understanding of the rules are also that you are allowed two legacy resits (old style specs rather than 9-1). Summer 2017 is the last opportunity though. Might be worth considering giving it a shot in November so that if you don't quite make it you still have the opportunity at a further resit in the summer with the old style GCSE. Otherwise if you resit for the first time in the summer of 2017 and want to try again it will have to be the new 1-9.....Hope that makes sense.
