Maths teaching scholarship?

I have an interview for a maths teaching scholarship with 'futureteachingscholars' on Monday. I am wondering if this is a good route to go down if I was planning on going into teaching after my maths degree?

Or would I be better waiting till I graduate and get funding to be a maths teacher/do a PGCE etc?

Are there better routes then this one? It takes 6 years to complete the programme which seems like a long time.

I have seen you can receive funding after your degree anyway here: https://getintoteaching.education.gov.uk/funding-and-salary/overview would this be a better option?

Any advice?

My own thoughts and concerns is you effectively locking yourself into a 6 yr program. If you did a straight degree (MMath) then you have the flexibility to become a NQT status with a PGCE if you want to, but on top of a maths degree, not a maths focussed teaching degree.
The money however might be a lure that's worth considering
