" alright [name]? " how do you response?

I got asked this about 4 times this week at college... does anyone else find it awkward and don't know what to say? I reply " Alright [name] " but then they ignore like if I'm being rude.

ye I'm ite, hbu?or if it's just in passing just be like "sup" and do that head thing where you point your chin at them

I would say anything that comes to mind such as:
"Sup"
"How's your day going"
"Hello from the other side"
"[their name]"
I used to respond with "yes" but people looked at me weirdly, so I just started saying "yeah alright, you?"

They would go " alright [name] "; I'd go quiet for about 10 seconds then say " alright [name] " i didn't how to respond

I get the struggle. I'm not proud but I'm just like "hi!" "yeah" smile and move swiftly on. I'm sure people know it's nothing personal I'm just awkward. Like seriously I've wondered the same thing myself, I cba having a conversation in the middle of the damn stairs with some teacher I barely talk to.

person 1: Im good, you?
person 2: Yeah Im good thx
The only correct response to the question "Alright?"

is
