Is my Sister a lesbian?

Hello everyone.

Lately I have been starting to gain a suspicion that my sister is a lesbian. Well in the back of my mind I have always had this slight suspicion but lately it has increased a bit more.

Firstly I must state I would be 100% accepting and it wouldn't make a difference to me, but I would like to know what others think. The only concern I have is that the eldest sibling in the family is gay (he came out last year). The reaction wasn't initially fantastic from our Mother, but she has come around. However I think it would crush her that she has a lesbian daughter and a gay son. Especially regarding the whole grandchildren situation. So as selfish as this sounds, in the back of my mind I would rather she is straight for that reason (but I understand if she is a lesbian, she can't help it and I wouldn't want her to hide who she is at all).

Ok so why do I think she is a lesbian?

1) The general lack of interest in the opposite sex. When she was younger I used to put it down to shyness, but now I am not so sure. She is a very pretty girl, and gets asked out on dates a fair amount. However she always blows them out. She is never fussed by them, never interested. Never seems attracted to them.

She goes out clubbing literally every weekend (for around 2 years now) and has never even gone as far to kiss a guy. Now, I am not saying that I want her to turn into a ****, but considering she is 19 years old (she had a fake ID before), I must admit I do find it slightly odd that she has never even kissed a guy. She just doesn't appear to be like other girls her age. All her other friends have had a serious boyfriend by their age or have one currently. At first I thought maybe she was just a bit picky, but once again I don't know if that is the case or if there is another reason.

Like I've said, she is fairly pretty, she goes out and socialises so that's why I find it slightly odd that there hasn't been one guy she appears to have fancied.

2) Years ago I remember she looked up photos of topless women on her computer. She was younger, and it could have been out of curiosity, but ever since then I think that is when I had a slight suspicion.

So yes her lack of interest in boys, and that incident from years ago is what gives me this suspicion. I'm not 100% sure but I would like to hear other opinions. Do you think this sounds like she is a lesbian? Or am I overanalyzing?

Maybe she has done things with guys but feels uncomfortable telling you. Maybe because ever since she was younger she was 'shy', now that she is older she finds it difficult opening up because of the years of shyness.
Maybe she's not ready for a relationship and has ridiculously high standards which makes her not want to kiss any guy.
Maybe she is asexual.
Maybe she isn't into romance.
Maybe she is bisexual/lesbian.

There are endless possibilities and if she feels comfortable enough she'll tell you.

erm does she act in a feminine way or dress more tomboyish, not wear makeup etc. Has she ever fancied a guy or said that she likes certain guys on tv etc. Does she spend a lot of time with girls or seem unusually close to certain girls.

I feel like asking her outright is rude. What if she isn’t a lesbian? Or what if she is but she isn’t ready to tell people yet? I would wait for her to open up, but be careful talking about homosexuality. Keep discussions about other people coming out positive so she knows how you feel and is comfortable talking to you about the subject.

Honey, don’t just go posting online about stuff like this, it’s pointless and will get you nowhere. If you want to know then open up that conversation but frankly your sister’s sexuality isn’t really something for you to speculate about because it’s not a big deal at all.

Yes. This was similar to my sister and it turns out she was.

If she liked guys, she would’ve had boy problems by now and if a girl has boy problems, you know and everyone who knows her also knows.

People always prefer to beat around the bush with these kinds things and say maybe this or maybe that… odds are she’s a lesbian. Yes there’s a minor chance she isn’t and you shouldn’t assume blah blah but it’s pretty obvious.

You’re actually being offensive by not taking these cues, it shows you’re assuming straight is normal, the default and you’re adopting some sort of “innocent until proven guilty” approach. Which means you see straight as innocent and lesbian as guilty, like it’s not right or a crime.
